XTC foam baffles

what is the point of them other then protecting your speaker? In my opinion you are better off building a custom cover only for the top inside the door so that no water gets onto it, speakers are designed to work well in bigger boxes, kind of like your door... so why would you use one of those baffles and give it no airspace?
