zapco ref 650.6,does it ave enough power?

Looking at a 650 but not sure if it has enough power to run a set of boston 6.53's.This is a 3 way system that I would byamp and use four of the 650's channels for.The other two would be for subs.Do you think this would be enough power to the boston pros?I hear they need alot of power to sound their best.I'm also looking at a studio 500 for a little less than the 650.Only problem is I wouldn't have any control of where the power goes.Any thoughts?I was also looking at old school fosgate 400x4 and 200ix,any thoughts on those picks. and what would be the best to go with?

You're correct regarding the Pro 6.53 set being partial to more power. I've used many of the Pro series drivers and found most to need a healthy dose of power to come alive.
Is there a reason you are looking mostly at older amplifiers? Are you on a budget?

If it were me I would use an amp that will give a healthy 200rms (or more) per channel to the 6.5" and another amp with around 150rms (or more) for the 4.5"+1" drivers.

Good clean reliable power is pretty cheap these days.

Thanks for the reply.I am on a budget.I have been looking at the zapco studio 500 because of the power, but I can't push more power to the 6.5's in the door, this will be a problem.I looked at the 650 because of all the control I can have with it.The only problem with the 650 is not too much power at 50x4 for the front stage.I can't take it down to 2 with my setup.

mike.Ive used zapco 650's in just about evry configuration you can imagine. The 650 is probly the most flexable amp (except audison) made. I think it may be a little overkill for your application, but, extra power is always good. The 3rd channel (sub) has amazing power! In my own car i powerd 2xJL 15w6's ,4xMB quart 6.5, 2xJL 4"XR and power wasnt an issue. How much are you buyin the amp for.
If you look in the photo gallery you can see a civic i built back in 1999 with a 650 and ag1000

thanks for the post,I'm really new to this but they say the boston pros. are power hungry.I only have a s10 reg. cab so it will be at lower volume. When they say more power makes them come alive, does it matter if it's at lower volume? Will a more powerful amp sound better than a smaller amp at the same lower volume?I really want a good sound but I will not be cranking it much at all.

another question,I have the 6.5 in the door of my s10.I just mounted them in the factory holes. At higher volume the speaker really works hard and I need to back off on the bass.Is there a quick fix to help this?

try and see if your hearing cone distrtion or maybe the door pannel is resonating. some sound deadening on the door and pannel wont hurt. if your using the 650,there is only one channel you can bandpass.that means your 6" will be playing down to 20hz (ouch!) do you have a hi-pass filter on your deck?

I have a 3way crossover that came with the set.I have a pioneer 9400mp deck that does(I think)have built in filters. On a normal install, would you need to build a box in the door?
