'01 Crapilier Freq
Friend of mine has been bitten by the SPL bug and wants to build something to compete with in an 01 Cavi. Not sure what class, or even the shape the car's in at this point, just curious to know what frequency you guys have found that these little J bodies like? I could mic it at some point, but it would be nice to know right off the hop and just start building to that. I never ran my Shitfire seriously in SPL (I ran the damn thing with an MTX 4001 and hit like a 132 or something... Not SPL lol), and I know the Cavi dash reflects the sound better to begin with, so if I have the freq to work with I can save some time and make the best of what they have to work with. Thanks in advance guys

dash reflects the sound better? what myth is this?
im curiouse, say someone tells you "it likes 51hz" where do you go from there? like how would that influence the box build?
spl 101 - your car's peak has little influence on the box.

It's probably 51hz like Yuli "suggested".
It might influence the box if he tunes near the resonant frequency .

I said "it's like the dash reflects the sound better", and you replied "I completely agree". Maybe you should cut the sarcasm so we know what you're actually trying to say.

what im trying to say is always the same thing, listen and learn.
near the resonant frequency eh? good one. you do realize that resonant frequency of a cabin changes with power and amount of cone area. and of course the box itself.
lesson to learn here is that you are thinking backwards. you have to use what you got to make a resonant frequency peak.
but if you guys would rather go down a straight line with a false answer than dance in circles and learn something then answer is.............it's between 42 and 59 hz as tested back in 2006/7 in a 2001 cavalier by Chris Barclay..........of course the peak varied based on if the box was in the trunk, how many subs, how much power, also it was a wall at one point and port area was changed alot thru out the period.

I don't run a rex, nor have I ever tested with one, but from what I've heard, most are peaking somewhere within 51-59 hz, with the focus being on port area more than box size, is that not right?
As for the Cavi, ok, 40-60hz isn't exact, but then again I don't have any details on what class this car's going to be in, so the gear is a mystery to me. I was looking for a general direction to take this build so I have something specific to work with, but I'll have to get some more details on the gear before I ask a question like that. My bad. It's not my build, and I'm not being paid, so I really don't care, I was asking to see what more seasoned SPLer's had found.
