To get more amperage the stator(outer ring of wires)must be replaced with a unit with larger wires,or more wires.
Gains in voltage are achieved with a voltage regulator with a higher setting.oem GM's have a wide variety.
other option is aftermarket internal adjustable,or external adjustable
Durability is subject to the rectifiers(weakest link) ability to disipate heat,and convert ac current to dc current..eg:small diodes with high output stator will produce excessive heat and rectifier failure.
external rectification is possible, but expensive,and will make most alternators close to indestructable.

You should go and read some articles on High output altnators and there place in car audio.
you will find that they are not always the answer, in fact not completely nessesary.
But its up to you
