hey all i just put a box in my car that almost walls the car with six tens.
i am useing a kenwood amp that is 550 rms at 2 ohms (JUST FOR TESTING)

also i got some 0 ga wire coming 2 morro and a 3000 rms amp and a 200 amp HO alt...

for today i ran some 10 ga power wire (will be used for a very small 2 ch amp later) and i connected the 550 rms amp to the 10 ga wire and all that i had was some 18ga speaker wire to go from the amp to the box (10 ga speaker wire in side the box)


so yea the car is ok loud.. but it falls on its face.....

i know some of you will call me a dipshit but i am guesing that it is falling on its face cus i am staving the amp for power cus i am using 10 ga power wire.
as well as the 18 ga speaker wire...

but i never thought it would be this much.

the amp never went in to protect or shut off just sounded like it was falling on its face i have a yellow top under the hood now but still a ton of dimmage even if i hold the RPMs at 2000 rpm


i am hoping the 0 ga wire and more 10 ga speaker wire will help and the bigger amp

what is the definition of "falling on its face" ?

im gonna take a guess at 2 things,

1 is the box really sucks and is not loud regardless of how much power you throw at it.

two, 10 gauge power wire is silly and not safe. thats not enough to make 400 watts out of your amp (yes i know you said its a 550 watt amp, but it's a kenwood).

so what we have here is a very poor box with a bunch of subs that get less than 100 watts each.

i am just fu*king round with some stuff that has been in the basement for a while..

the "falling on its face" means when i turn the deck to 20 (of 35) it sounds good. and pretty loud

but 21 (of35) the subs distort like a mother and sound like all hell. and the it is not as loud..

i beleive this is cus i am clipping the amp cus i am staving it for power. cus of the 10 ga power wire.

now i am not saying that my box is the sexyest but for what i want it to do i think it will work when i throw more power at the subs. and also some 0 ga wire when it comes in tomorro.

its pretty straight forward as to what the problem is. you are tryin to turn it up louder than the set up in its present state can go.

unless your subs are rated for 100 rms this will continue to be the case even with 0 gauge power wire if you continue using the kenwood amp.

you thanked me for tips, which i did not give. here is a tip then - you need a bigger amp.

a short term solution would be to take out a sub or two so the remaining subs get power levels closer to their rated RMS power handling. It would actually be louder and sound better.

 

How many ohms are these six tens? Aside from the amp being too small and your wiring being inadequate, you may also run into a serious load problem with even a big amp. Post what subs that you are trying to drive.

 

the subs are SVC 4 ohm

three are wired to 1.34 ohms the other three same 1.34 then together for 2.66 ohms

the subs are 300rms 600 peak

 

You might even be running into a grounding issue here, either from the head unit or the amplifier driving the subs.

I do have some questions though -
What model of amplifier are you testing with?
What class is it?
What is its' stable ohmage load rating?
Have you double checked your parallel and series connections?
Have you double checked your ground connections for the amp?

 

is the amp a 2 ohm amp or a 1 ohm amp?

if you take out 3 of the subs and wire it to 1.34 ohm i guarantee you it will sound much louder and much better. it might play, it might not. worth a shot i think.

 

i am not 100% sure if the amp is 1 ohm stable it is a mono block

 

i am getting a bigger amp in the next day or two and my wire should be here any min so i should be all good very soon
