battery question...
#1
Well... the TP beehotches haven't been much help in answering my question. I should have known to ask here first
I have a hawker 2150 under the hood.
I'm going to iasca finals where they allow a 2nd battery. Thing is I can't afford a 2nd 2150 right now.
Would it be worth my while to put a 2nd Excide or Yellowtop (read: cheaper) battery?
Would having 2 different batteries be a problem?

No, it should be fine. The second battery (Optima or Orbital as you said) will be mounted much close to the amps, and be doing most of the work.
I have a 2 month old Orbital mounted up front in my van, and I add an old gel wheelchair battery in the back near the amps. It makes a heckuva difference, very noticable.
Perhaps even a half a DB!

Now.. next question. You said throw them both on a charger. Do you mean hook the charger up when they're both connected to each other, or a charger to each??
(the latter seems a bit ridiculous, but I figure I'll still ask)

use a high current solinoid so its only used when needed
The only problem that you would possibly run into is if you were daily driving with the 2 different batteries.. If you did this, when you car is off and if they are both hooked up they will "fight" each other and keep draining each other to charge..
