Question building a box, need advise on ports

i'm doing a generic ported box for 2 rockford fosgate hx2 15's (1999 model)
the box is about 5.50 cubic feet and I am going to be using 2 4"ports 7.5" long.how far away can i place the port from the sub & ive heard that having a bend or elbow is important to reduce port noise is this a myth???

is there anything you guys would change

cheers

i would say adding bends could only increase the chance of port noise because you want the air to flow as smoothly as possable through the ports.

cool man, I also wanted to know if its better to position the subs in a downfiring position if possible. and in that case should the ports fire in the same direction
