dilemma

I am tor between two options and looking for some suggestions.

I have a '05 RE XXX 12" DVC 4ohm and am currently putting a system together for competitions in the new year.

My amp is inadequate for powering the sub at a safe level (800WRMS at 2 ohm)

So, these are the options that I see:

1) Keep the XXX and get a better amp set-up, if i keep the XXX at all I figure i will need to recone so i can run it at 1 ohm (or lower in the case of comps) to get the most out of which ever amp i go with.

2) Sell the XXX and get a different set-up, maybe a pair fo 15's or 12's, and still probably get another, or at least different amp.

Please give me insight as to what you guys see to be the pro's and cons of each possibility.

Thank you in advance for any and all input.

I thought it was...

checked coils with DMM and im getting 2.5 on each coil and 1.5 when run together. As far as i know, if they are dvc 2ohm they should come up under 1 ohm (slightly) but then again i dont know everything :P

your sub is a dual 2, your multemeter is reading 0.5 high, thats normal.

I know it's dual 2 because I was running it on crossfore bmf1000d monoblock and no way I wouldn't notice that it's wired to 2ohms getting 500w. I did put a multimeter to it once and I was getting close to 4ohm I think when I wired it up for my PG tantrum amp for a 4ohm load.

Thanks for clearing all of this up Yuli and Dima, I know a decent amount about car audio and electronics, but I know I still have alot to learn, it's little things like the DMM reading high that I have yet to fully figure out.

In that case, how many watts could I run to that sub daily without any issues?

My SX's are also dual 2, but like your sub, each of their coils read 2.5 on my fluke multimeter. Oddly, measurements of coils from the few other subs I own match up perfectly to their DCR specifications.
