Elemental Designs SPv.2

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a single 15" sub that can take 1500w. I'm on somewhat of a budget and i was wondering what your opinions of the ED SPv.2 are?

Good, Bad, Ugly?

Hey man...

it's scoobasteve from focuscanada...

nevertheless. I dont really have a budget. I wanna keep the bass end as cheap as possible.

I was thinking of going with 2x12 RE XXX's or 2x15 RE SX15's but in the end, i decided that it probably wouldnt be worth it. I have a viper D2500.1 for bass so i need a sub that can take 1500w +.

The SPv.2 would cost me 270USD shipped. It seems pretty cheap for what youre getting.

if you are talking about 2 of the new XXX's, you'll want about 6-8kw on tap and the subs themselves will cost you in the area of $1k canadian.

the spv.2 is not really a proven performer. i would not necessarily say that they are bad subs; just that they are not necessarily the best and come from a very shady company.

if you can wait a month or two, you could probably get Adire Maelstrom's from www.creativesound.ca and you would be flying.

the SX would be a nice viable option, as would DD 3500's. i would say those would be first on my list after the Maelstrom's. there is also the option of 2 2500's from DD, which www.2loud4you.ca has at a pretty good price at the moment. a couple Incriminator Audio LI's would from that same site would be fun too.

of course, it's hard to beat the price of the spv.2's, so i would say just get the best you can afford.

edit: almost forgot the Audioque HD's.

ED's a shady company? In what way? I havent read too much about them outside of their own forums.

I wasnt talking about the new XXX's just one of the 04-05's Hmm, I was planning on spending up to 800$ on a pair of subs, but when i saw this one i realized this could be done on a smaller budget.

What i'm looking for is a nice SQL driver (i know the SPv.2 wasnt, but it seemed to provide the grunt i desire)

How are the 3500's on SQ?

3500's are pretty good daily drivers. i've only heard one and i liked it. along the same lines as the Audioque HD.

read this in regards to eD:
http://caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61209

just a small example of some of their issues.

depends on the enclosure, but it would have to be a very small sealed enclosure for the brahma to take that daily.

2 of them would work good though. or a single tumult. or a single maelstrom.

Damn, This is complicated. I read that stuff about ED being a shady company, but i have ordered some stuff from them in the past Nine.4 and some edead. But i havent ordered a subwoofer.

My biggest problem with finding a brahma or a XXX or even an SX is i'll have to go used. or struggle and find a dealer.

Would i be better off with a SPV.2 New. or should i take my chances and pick up a Used XXX or something else that can take a steady 1500w for my DD. (i'll probably just stick to 1 driver for now, so i can save some trunk space)
