Hey, I have a 1993 cavalier with my sub box custom built by kawartha tv & stereo in my back seat. I have 2 kaption spl 1500s and 2 HC 75.2 kaption amps. Thats all i have in my setup, no line drivers or extra batteries. I dont want to put much more money into this because this setup has made me poor. Ill attempt to post pics. I am going to build an amp rack. I have another battery that was just taken out of my moms santa fe because it wasnt working properly but it still works all that was happening was problems like stereo cutting out and wipers not working. So i was thinking of putting the second battery in my trunk then hooking up my 4 gauge wire coming from my battery to the second battery in the trunk then running another 4 gauge into my splicer to my amps and just use the ground that my amps are hooked up to for the battery as well but its 8 gauge???. SO my amps and battery would be sharing a ground???? is that going to mess stuff up? What I am wanting to know is will this battery setup work and how well. I am currently hitting 144.5 db on new meters. My score drops to 143.5 db the second round and my amps are getting hot. I didnt know if it was because they were getting to hot or because of power loss. What can I do to get more decibles, I want to know simple stuff I can do.

Your first step would be to do the big 3... as posted above.

The next thing I would do is upgrade from the 4G power wire from the front.

Front to back I'd go with 0 guage minimum. For the short run from the rear battery to your amps the 4 guage should be OK, but if you can go bigger it would be suggested.

If possible I'd also bring a battery charger to shows. This will help you keep the power levels up on your batteries.

That box looks great and it looks like it was well made. Do you happen to know what it's tuned to?

It looks like the ports may be a little narrow, so if you can find a way to modify the box that may help also

electrical is the most important thing that i would concentrate on. your box is key but id start exactly where these guys have stated. once your power is optimized then have ago at the oher fine points of spl.

first of all your subs should be in the trunk. in the car like yours u would get higher spl with a longer wave lenght. this happens with every trunk vehicle we have ever tried. and u need more port

I guess i should of said what its tuned to before. We have it tuned for 53hz. I am aware of the wavelengths as well, thats why we tuned it higher. I know what you mean though. We also wouldnt of been able to build as big of box that we built. I was just wondering now that you brought up the subject on beefier cables. What if I was to use my existing 4 guage cable to connect the 2 batteries then splice a 1 aup cable into two 4 gauge cables that run to each amp? I just dont want to have to by another 15 feet of really expensive cable because that stuff is 4.75$ a foot. I was thinking about taking out my seats before a competition? And.... I can get a 1 farad metra capacitor for 80$. Would that be something I should also think about?

ok u dont need any huge cables for those amps, thats not enough power to benefit from a bigger cable. if ANYTHING u'd gain at most a db.

why did u bild a box so big??? im lost??? build it in the trunk with like a 4 cube box, that would be more than enough. we have a few guys with boxes in the trunk of a cavalier and a neon doin 148+ with 2 10's. the box is no more than 4 cubes and as big of a port as u can get.

this did over 149

so does this

this does over 148 with 1 amp

u get the idea........
