Help with competition setup
Hey everyone, im very new to this website, first post actually. But I have a few questions for those of you willing to answer. I now have 2 JL Audio 1000/1 amps that I would like to setup in my 2000 honda accord coupe. I have an optima battery with 850 CCA and 1000 CA. I am a pretty big fan of big bass and SPL. And no I dont ride around rattling other people's cars, I dont want to do that. I want to have big bass for when im pulled over or at competitions. I was wondering what type of subs and sub box you all would suggest for me and my car. I was thinking either 2 12w6v2's or 2 12w7's. The thing is, I cant go over 12" in my car due to limited trunk space. The way I was thinking was to hook one JL 1000/1 to each sub in a ported box. And would you all recommend 0 gage amp cabling instead of the 4 gage that I currently use. I also have a 2.4 Farad cap which I know isnt that much but I had it for my 2 12" kicker comps.
JL is not a very good sub for SPL; more of a street-bumping all-around decent sub. Look around on the forum and you will find a few more SPL-specific subs such as DD, atomic, and RE. As for wire, run as much as you can fit/afford; it is common to see 8 runs of 1/0 both pos and neg in street classes since more wire = less voltage drop. Also, get rid of the cap or at least unhook it for burps since it will lower your SPL. Over 2-3000 watts you are going to want to start looking for a bigger battery too such as a group 31 optima or an NSB-90.
I have an optima that puts out 800 CCA (red top) or do I need a bigger one?
So basically JL isnt really a great comp sub, do they just not pound hard?
And where can I find a website that carries Digital Designs, atomic and RE?
