So this week Chris and I are getting wood cut at home depot, long story short, we are in the parking lot as the cart boy come up to my car to ask what we where building, so I tell him "just got wood cut for a box". Well that's when he decides to school me on spl.

Cart boy
"first off you box has to be 12"x12"x12"

me
"I'm running two tens that wont work"

cart boy
"well i know loud, i have a friend in Windsor that has a sealed box its loud"

chris
"we going ported"

cart boy
"wtf why my friend told me sealed, its louder. You have to make it sealed if you want loud"

chris
"ported is louder"

cart boy (getting jumpy at this point)
"sealed is louder he hit 300db all the time"

me
"WOW"

cart boy
"so i think i know what i'm saying"

me
"no you don't, tool"

cart boy
"300db all the time, with his sealed box i know"

chris
(spits his coffee out laughing), "ported boxes are way louder and you don't know how loud 300db is"

Me
"I highly doubt he is hitting 300db in his box."

Cart boy
(red in the face mad), "you guys don't know what the hell your talking about, I helps him build his car, I've seen him hit 300db in his car."

Me
I told him the loudest vehicle in the world only hits 183db. I would know, I've done SPL for a few years and I've judged db drag and SPL. There is no way he is hitting 300db.

Cart boy
(throws cart in the cart rack), "you guys have no f***ing idea what the hell your talking about." and walked away.

Chris and I burst out laughing and get in our cars.

Just a little story I thought I'd share, now everyone go out and build sealed 12x12x12 box and hit 300db, because cart boy says so.

 

Huh. I suppose you learn something new everyday.

 

there are alot of guys that say that to me too whenever i get wood cut... its awsome, lol

I wish people here would say stupid things like that, but I think in toronto when you reach a certain point of loud everyone assumes you're a gangbanger and don't say anything to you. somewhere around 220dbs or so lol

well guy's looks like we all better head down to home depot and see if this guy is willing to do an SPL training seminar, 300 DB eh (LOL) , wow we all apparently have no idea and are behind the times . Thanks for the post that is definitely a classic .........

I don't think that guy even realizes what 300db's might actually sound/feel like, or even do to a car ...

 

Finish box, put cart boy in front seat and let it rip. Then ask him if he still thinks his friend is right or if his friend is a complete tool and if it rubbed off on him. I would think a couple of blast in the parking lot would be enough to get the attention of people inside the store.
