you can do all that, you will see a gain but it wont huge ,2-3db. (mabey)
i calculate your box to be roughly 4.2cf@ 38hz you will definaly see alot more gain if you find out the res. frequecy of you car and then build a new box and tune it near that frequency

this box is built to the roughly the same specs as mine, only difference is being 2" wider and 1" taller to accomodate the 2nd sub, port is approx the same area as mine give or take depending on the accuracy of cuts, and my highest output is acheived using a 45 hz tone, so his should also be in that range, seeing as he has not tested it properly with a test cd im sure he'll see pretty good increases once he finds his exact freq, again based on the accuracy of the home depot guy that did the cuts
