I just learning this stuff so bare with me. :confused:
when tuning a box, a diffrent size box and diffrent size port are what tune it to a frequency right? now I know higher is better for SPL and lower is better for SQL? will higher hz give me lower deeper bass or harder louder bass? I want to hit the lows really hard is that what SPL is? thanks Steve |
higher frequency (hz) will give you louder bass on the meter (SPL)...not necessarily to the ear.
For me atleast i find the bass from 35-45 hz to be the loudest to my ear so i like to tune my box accordingly. Generally a 35 hz tune is good for all around bass...SQL heres a quick calculator to help you out. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 |

I just made a ported box, and the variables turned out to be the NET volume of the box (minus displacement of port, sub, and bracing), the length of the port, and the surface area of the port. lower frequency will give deeper bass higher frequency will give harder louder bass i tuned my box to 30hz, so its more towards SQ |
unfortunatly none of the above accounts for things like vehicles natural cabin gain of optimal box volumes for your sub, etc........
how ever, most vehicles have there natural cabin gain at 60hz. that is one of the biggest keys i can give ya. oh ya and also this is how you need to think of spl. you are building pressure! so if you can get your speaker to move 1/2" at 45hz. you are going to build a certain amount of air preasure. now if you can get the same speaker under the same conditions to move 1/2" at 60hz (you might need more power than what u had before to do this) it would be logical to assume that you would now be creating more preasure in the vehicle bassed on the fact that the speaker is now moving much faster. now this would only apply directly to a sealed box bassed on the fact that a port will tune an enclosure and give a fauls reading. for every one who is saying that a sealed box has a tunning freaquency as well or rather a down point, thanx! this is just the best way to illustrate how the above therory works hope that this helps you! |

all I want to know is what the bass will sounb like at say 30hz compared to 50hz? ie: louder deeper harder thanks Steve |
