line driver a must?
ok guys up until now ive relied on my ears to do any kind of upgrades/ installs in my own vehicles. but lately ive been wanting to sit down and think about how things work together. (doin the math) anways my question is do i need a line driver with my deck? ive got the eclipse 5443 and it seems to do the job. so would a line driver help the preout at all? or does my deck have enough power on its own?
For an SPL setup, to compete, I would definately use one. Mostly cause those setups have multiple sub-amps. But you know Pat's Shadow uses one PG Trantrum 1200 and he uses a line driver, I would say it could never hurt if you have one lying around.

A lot of the spl oriented amps don't require a line driver.
My EQ's for example. It's actually recommended that you DON'T use one.
If you input voltage is too high then you run a higher risk of blowing your amp.
For the most part it's just easier to turn the gains up properly.
if you run more than one amp from you deck to subs that are in the same inclosure you will want to get a line driver. You would start running into signal loss from the deck if you did not. Remember though even if you dont have a line driver you would have to level match all your amps together. A line driver was perfect for my situatioin because each sub is powered by 2 amps.
same signal going to the 4th amp as to the 1st amp, no loss. line driver good.
