Loud Trunks vol 2

So season has started and I am for one on the band wagon of trying on getting a trunk class added to Db drag just wondering what sort of scores are out there. My score just to clarify from the May 16 show 153.2 1 amp 2 batts at some point the neg terminal came off the front battery should have noticed since in testing with one batt was same score as the 152.4.

crabmustang 05-22-2010 03:19 PM

I hope to be out to play a bit this year Dave, No longer with the cavy unfortunately (Long story) but with my 05 Sunfire 4 door daily car, gonna start building and testing next week I`m hoping if I get time, Don't know if it will do anything spl wise but time will tell. I have a few amp choices and sub choices so time to Tinker & Test.

Garett

MTA 05-22-2010 09:49 PM

from experience the sunfire is not that good for SPL..they get loud but not like the neon or cavalier

crabmustang 05-23-2010 06:28 AM

^^^ Ya that is what I had heard and seen in my web search also^^^ I`ll still give it a try and see what I can do.

From what I heard they tune low like 44-46hz, any truth to that?

Thanks
Garett

MTA 05-23-2010 09:10 AM

yup...last 2 i played with were at 45hz
small peak at 52 also but didnt get good results with that peak

crabmustang 05-23-2010 11:44 AM

Thanks for the confirmation. Makes my sub and box choices more limited with the lower note. Time to see what I can do.

Thanks
Garett

Sup Dave!

I'm in massive rebuild mode lol

Gonna try something new for the GP and if it dont work out the shell will become another box lol

I moved everything to the trunk. I'll be able to get all 6 batts(maybe 2 more),both AB's,PG 200.4,subs and box.

I still have never removed nor cut any of the original body, struts etc... Working strictly with what the factory gave me. :) Someday I hope to catch you :)

dude your box looks really small... what frequency you tuned to?
have you considered switching to a single 15" that might solve the cone loading off the motor issues and also move more air... i know my single 15" did 154.2db more than 2 years ago... all equipment in the trunk... and only 2 group 31 optima batteries with engine off

pffft that's only cuz you're the elite. u really do know something about those trunk cars. :smilie_da

let's go. this thread needs more spl.

Lord Huggington 06-02-2010 01:06 AM

Cavy vs. Sunfire - My friends Cavy with 2 sealed 12's on 750W had more in-your-face bass than my Sunfire with a ported 12 on 1500W. Mine was louder at most frequencies but I still prefer Cavy bass, it feels like the sound bounces off the dash better. 154.2 at what frequency?

Well to be honest I have no idea what the tuning is. I believe its starting the high 50's lol

I love to experiment!

Thorshammer at some point we will meet and don't be discouraged took Peter building 5 boxes and me putting 280 + hrs of work in to the 5th box not to say the rest of the car

thorshammer 06-04-2010 07:29 AM

I look forward to it Dave!

shouldnt that be the other way around?

MTA 06-16-2010 11:26 PM

dude... measure the car for me.. Ill design something... but you gotta step down a level in subs..the motors are just too big! they totally kill the back wave and too much compression on the cone thats why you're blowing out the surrounds

measure from the trunk lid furthest point to where the sensor goes in the front windshield

then give me dimensions of the lagest box that can fit in your trunk

actually I think he is saying it right... but depends if he's pulling the whole port out of the box and keeping the length but outside the box... you know the extra airspace in the box causes to tune lower

Father Yuli 06-16-2010 11:33 PM

yah stupid me i read it wrong.

invert mount those subs!

Will do. Once I took the lvl 5's out of my old box no more surround rippage lol I will indeed be getting smaller motors but they wont be a step down. In fact the new motors are as strong as the 99z's.:smokin:

Killer_klown187 06-17-2010 10:19 AM

Ohhhh rob, can't wait til you get the new toys! It will be interesting to say the least!

MTA 06-17-2010 11:37 AM

What u need if u stick with 10's is a long throw motor but no more than 7" or so in diameter. Do u have room for a single 15" ?

Killer_klown187 06-17-2010 12:04 PM

Hahaha don is on his case about a single 15" as well! He is goin to play with one shortly iirc.

Looking good Rob :appl:

Been following this on CA, Termpro and here for what seems like ages and i have been waiting to see you try this setup (center aero), lot less port area but it should help with the loading issues and with any luck get you even louder.

How about some more pictures?

^^^^Thanks! Its definately tuned low lol

First I added another rear wall on the inside of the box.

This time around I'm making a vanity plate for the face of the box and one for the trunk opening. We're gonna shoot for breaking 50's at 36hz while looking good lol

Lord Huggington 06-17-2010 09:45 PM

Are those 10's? 2500 rms?

MTA 06-17-2010 09:51 PM

more port in that box and since thats the design thats gonna work best..next recone make it into 12's... since your trim is pretty well 12" anyway

bart pyle 06-17-2010 11:27 PM

Peter's words are golden Rob!! This man know his spl, especially the trunks.

Father Yuli 06-18-2010 12:01 AM

i like

finally you crossed over the dark side of aero port

I've clamped my 10's musically at 8400rms:smokin:

More port in box? Do you mean to get a longer port? Its currently 4 in or so from the back wall.

I have a pr of 12in baskets here that I plan on trying 12's with as well as a couple 15's that I'll have to play with. The box face is removable so I can try many different things lol

I have a secret surprise coming soon. Much smaller motor and half the wieght. Yes they will be 10's but i think you'll like them :D

I also took measurements from back of box to meter.:smilie_da

fox_racin4 06-18-2010 07:40 AM

wont having the port that close to the back wall cause issues?

thorshammer 06-18-2010 07:54 AM

I have no clue. I've just been following suggestions as I have never used aeros lol

fox_racin4 06-18-2010 08:03 AM

i thought that it had to be at least the port diameter away from the back wall :dunno: guess youll find out tho haha

thorshammer 06-18-2010 09:22 AM

I measured it just now and its 5.5inches exactly from back wall.

Well it appears that box calculators as always are a bit off lol Its peaking around 32hz and is just down right nasty down there lol

fox_racin4 06-18-2010 09:26 AM

what kinda numbers does it do down there!?

thorshammer 06-18-2010 09:29 AM

We shall see tomorrow. My goal is to bring it up to 36-38 and break 50's with a pretty demo car :)

I can tell ya that at 32hz my monstas barely move and its like a windstorm in the cabin lol Might be able to pull off some good hair tricks lmao!
