oh I know, I've been running 150.1s for several years now.

it is up to the company what they rate there amps at.
to be honest, I was dancing around (what I thought was) the obvious to see if anyone would run with it. AB has pulled this rating stunt before. and willcann didn't want to take the bait LOL

Mat, do you not see the advantages of running a 3kw amp in a 2kw class? I've personally seen 200.1s/E-Audio 3ks clamp over 2kw at safe daily impedances. most other CEA-rated amps (be it 1-2kw, 2-1kw or multiple smaller amps) would need to be wired right down to make that kind of power with music (risking going into protection during the run or worse). not having to stress the hell out of your equipment is an advantage, without question.
that being said, it's quite possible that the loud canadian street stock competitor who blew their amp up before finals was the one running the 200.1. even if it is, my point still stands.

these potentially bogus ratings still have me wondering why there's a rating limit at all, especially if that 2kw limit is enforced via clamping.

but maybe I'm out to lunch. wouldn't be the first time LOL

total power isn't the issue at all for street stock, since you can't clamp more than 2kw. I've already made my point clear in past posts.

if you look on the AB website, their ratings are all over the place (speaking of the 100.1s).
the 100.1 used to be rated at 1500w, now it's 1000w?
LMAO, on their website they rate the 150.1 at 2900wRMS, and the 120.1 at 2600wRMS, yet the 200.1 is only 2k now?

I just find AB's "ratings" interesting
