Hey guys.

my budget is $330 for a sub, and $50 for a box which i will be making myself.

so whats the LOUDEST sub i can get.

i need to keep the box small though. i wanna keep external domensions as small as possible.

i was thinking of 2 12's or one 15.

id prefer 2 12s so the box could be kept smaller.

id say 3 cubes is the maximum size for the box.

i mainly care about all out SPL, SQ isnt too important

hdave 02-25-2005 09:12 AM

oh and i can pickup a pair of alpine type r 12s for $200, which is a great deal. i dunno if i should stick to that

and and i will be running it of a 2 channel amp, so if its 2 subs they will need to provide a 2 ohm load each, or if its one sub i gotta be able to wire it to 4 ohms.

Audio_Rookie 02-25-2005 09:45 AM

if you can get 2 type r for 200$ I say take it....

so thats 330$ for all subs i assume? You could probobly grab a kicker L5 or L7 for around that price....I see you already have 1 though...

Sassmaster 02-25-2005 10:00 AM

You could get a 12" IDmax at the auto show for 400... but that's a little more than your budget

hdave 02-25-2005 10:28 AM

the kicker 15 took up too much space

i need something that will pound equally hard, like the 15" L7, but can do so in a smaller box.

wat about these:
brahma, RE XXX, Treo SSi

i was todl that 12" brahma or XXX will pound jsut asmuch as my 15" kicker L7, but am not sure if thats true.. is it true?

iDs748 02-25-2005 10:37 AM

the brahma WILL POUND LIKE A MOFO powered and enclosed properly....Just check adire's site. Anyways you will not be able to buy a brahma for a cpl months. They still in production in CHILE. if your willing to wait , id wait. Me personally am broke right now which is a good thing so in a couple months when i have $$$ ill be pickig up some brahama's.

hdave 02-25-2005 12:02 PM

now the question is where to get somehting like that in my pricerange.

dbdaddy 02-25-2005 12:04 PM

if u mainly care about spl do not buy the type r's.

hdave 02-25-2005 12:11 PM

ya that is wat i was thinking too, but i need a sub or subs that will give me good spl in my pricerange.

BooLeaN 02-25-2005 12:17 PM

If you want SPL like for competitions, stay away from the type R, if you are talking abotu SPL like sounding loud for daily driving then get them :D

As for what you are looking for, try to find 2 Kicker L7 10's on ebay. I have mine is 3.3 cubes before displacement and it's not too loud yet but I'm trying. I broke the 146 mark on the new TL the other day.

hdave 02-25-2005 12:31 PM

its only for street use. i need to make sure ppl can feel me coming from ffaaarrrrrr away.

they will be going into the trunk of a 4dr neon that rattles a lot.

BooLeaN 02-25-2005 02:34 PM

LOL the neon does rattle a lot. I have 2 L7 10's in my 2door neon and it sounds pretty good.

I'd grab those Type R's if I were you though for that price

Good luck,
Craig G

if you want SPL 3 cu.ft. ...ouch...go with a single good 12" sub in a cuft box or bigger PORTED!
in the price range you are looking at...chances are you will not find a good sub such as an RE, DD,Treo or anything else worthy of SPL...maybe if you get one that is used but not abused

keep in mind that a box that is too small for 2 -12s (3 cuft)will not play as loud or efficiently as a 3cuft for a single 12

http://www.treoonline.com/ssi_specs.html

288oz magnet
750rms
it says 27mm excursion, is that Xmax or is that peak to peak?

do u guys htink this thing will pound better than my old S15L7?

creed 02-25-2005 08:01 PM

hey pm me ill take care of you. do you wanna be ShOcKeD?

hdave 02-26-2005 10:10 AM

RE XXX 15 dual 2
can my 700rms and about 2.8 cubes ported be enough for this thing, or not?

Treo SSi 15 dual 2
can it pound enough?

Brahma 15

MTA 02-26-2005 10:54 AM

2.8 is ok for a single 15 if you only want to daily drive the thing...also depends alot on the vehicle you have..maybe you should start by telling us what that is... then it will be easier to actually determine if it will work

hdave 02-26-2005 11:19 AM

95 Neon 4 dr
will go into my trunk
basically i need it to get as loud as possible, i need people to feel me coming from far away.

im willing to give up around 2.8 cubes max, i want it ported of course.

my amp is a fosgate 700s, so 700rms @ 4 ohms.

the RE XXX has a bigass hole in the dustcap, but the seller has agreed to buy a new dustcap from RE and will send that to me along with the sub, and i gotta glue it myself.

Vanilla Gorilla 02-27-2005 10:55 PM

A friend of mine, has a 15" Kicker L7, for $300 if your interested. PM me if you want it, Yes, it'll go LOUD.

hdave 02-27-2005 11:32 PM

i use to have an L7, i got rid of it cuz like i felt it was time for a change.

MTA 02-28-2005 05:31 AM

in a neon I wouldnt use a 15"sub.... it will be hard to work with...you can get a pair of 10's or a single 12" to play really loud in that car
just my 0.02 worth from experience
