there are lots of company's that produce massive spl subs but dont have the amps to power them.. maybe pioneer will release a "5000 watt" amp [img]smile.gif[/img]

hey Phoenix gold has the t112delite(fat bastard) with no amp to power it either, only 1 burnt voice coil out of all the ones in canada. Moe Sabourin uses these and he broke the iasca record again.

i've seen and actually touched one(hell, i almost picked it up for myself), damn heavy for a twelve. the dude that bought it, launched it a few days later.i think he clipped the v/c until it caught fire [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img] the guy should have figured, a sub like this beast, needs a sh**load of power. if you don't or won't buy the reqd. amount, than you should consider a different driver....just my $.02

That phoenix sub has a 1200 continuous rating. They make a Tantrum 1200 amp. Should work well enough unless their are impedence problems as I didn't see them listed on the site.

The Phoenix Gold T12d Elite works really well with the Tantrum T1200.1 amp. Most of the T1200's put out about 1500 watts RMS power at 4 ohms and that's more than sufficient for the driver. I know they'll handle the power, I'm running 4,500 watts per driver and haven't blown one up yet!

As far as the Pioneer subs and amps are concerned, this has been a dark year for Pioneer unfortunately. They have recalled ALL their 2003 model amps due to a problem with the output stages; apparently they literally catch on fire from overheating and have pulled them all off the shelves. Their subs are really awesome looking, but they unfortunately are having issues with them as well. I know of a number of people that have blown them up with a little or a lot of power. My guess is the voice coil is too small. They rate a sub at 750 watts RMS/2000 watts peak and the voice coil is only 2" diameter on a 12" sub. Pioneer says that the v/c too long and keeps bottoming out which causes the breakdown.

Either way I hope Pioneer is able to correct these issues. It would be a shame to see these subs taken off the market; they look awesome and if they can fix them I think they'll do some serious butt kicking!

I have seen the Pioneer SPL sub in action and it seemed to do well. it was in Edge Audios extreme 9+ van with 9 15s (I beleive) and 4 bd1500s per woofer. It hit 168s on the new termlab which isn't a bad number.

I had the PRIVELIGE of hearing that sub in Cathy Black's, Dale Earnhardt edition Monte Carlo.

It's being powered by an Orion XTR-PRO 2400 in a sealed box.

I can honestly say that it is up there in my favourites list.....it rocked.

It reminded me of the Juggernauts, in that it was loud as hell and stayed nice and controlled.

It was so loud in-fact, that on 3-6Mafia's Late Night Tip...it was rattling the rear quarter pannels in and out like 1/4". And like I said, it stayed tight and controlled.

I heard it up in Huntsville at the 2 day Finals qualifier(thanks for an awesome show Moe) and she hit mid 140's with it I believe.

If you got the money it's a great sub, but I'm sure there's louder than it, for much cheaper, somewhere.
