there was much talk around the tables at iasca finals (cause usaci iasca and db drags were there and scott owens had just broken 180.) this is rumours again but it is relevant so ill see what you all think.

changing the rules cause it is easier to change them than it is the mic. the absorbants amounts of money that it takes to do changes to that mic is pheonominal and it would require emmense work to make a better mic. not impossible but immense none the less. so they chatted that changing the rules is easier. making changes the interior rules so as to lower the dbs that can legally be created. thinner walls. thinner plexi, centered consoles, smaller modifications, etc. it is possible to make a loud car with less modifications and im sure that someone would hit 180 again. but considering that audio companies are making better woofers each and every year, there is no doubt that tolerances will be higher and spl will climb nonetheless.

i have no doubt that this will be the route that they will take. and that a new mic will not be introduced. cause it took years to make the one they have now and itll take a few to make another one or a better one.

on a side note. i think that a new speaker design is what is needed to make 190 happen. and new designs yes. but id like to see the servo woofer(cant remember the name) but something like that is needed.

no there was another woofer that came out. cant remember the name. ive seen it around from a few different companies. it looks like a mechanical device between 2 cones. does this spark someones memory? i know that at least 3 companies came out with one. very wear and tear but quite the concept. the name was called the vortex. PG made one.

doesn't dBdrags have some very strict rules about what kind of woofers you can use? I'm pretty sure that servo woofers aren't allowed.

... yup! ... Servo-subs are illegal in dbDrags.

Pat; Paradigm makes a Servo-sub, so does Velodyne... as does a company called Genesis.......

Servo controlled woofers are usually SQ oriented.

What about that crazy Adire thing with like 6" of stroke?

Apparently it's insanely expensive. Like in the range of $10g's or something.

(I think that's what I heard... don't quote me on it though!)
