Currently I have a 97 Explorer Sport (the 2DR)...

When I put for instance, a couple of 12" subs in the back seat facing toward the the driver the bass is not very loud.
When I put the subwoofers in the back, facing the hatch, so that they are loaded of the rear hatch the bass is intense and everything shakes.

After my 2nd electrical engineering semester is done in the spring I'm looking to buy a ~97 single cab Toyota Tacoma and do a cut-through of the bed in which I would convert the whole bed into an enclosure. It would probably be running ~2000W after I get another BMF1000d, and two 15" or 18" XXXs with a 15" fibreglassed sontotube right down the center to port it to ~32Hz. The subs would be essentially firing right into the lower part of the seats.

Now here is the question:...
Where would I load the subs off of? Would I experience the same sort of phenomenon as I experience when facing the subs forward in an SUV?

Another issue is sound deadening... it seems to me that pickup trucks are the loudest vehicles outside for some reason. This means that they aren't very good SPL vehicles?

pick ups are fine for spl, i just dont know how well u will do with a cut through with such little power. do u have any room behind the seat? it would be best to have the subs and port fire up.

put some more power to the 15's or 18's. defiantly. give them2-3000 watts each then u have some SPL! and some gooood street bass!

But I figure if the whole bed is just a box... that's a lot of volume which will decrease my power handling.

And if I make the whole bed a box then I will be able to insanely large port areas tuned to insanely low frequencies.

large port = high tuning

Not when you can make it long enough...

Sorry, I guess it would be implied when I said that I would convert the whole bed into an enclosure.

That would probably give me ~30CF to use. 10CF per 15" or 18" sub would be good. I could probably make a tunable port.

Anyhow I've been playing around with the math and with a huge 20CF net volume, to tune to 30Hz will only take about ~16" length of port which consists of a 15" diameter sonotube.

I figure since the box volume is so large ~1200W RMS a pop that BMF1000ds put out will be able to drive a 15" or 18" quite well.

Like I said, this is my main idea that I'm piecing together right now and I'll probably go around implementing this after school is done in the spring.

cool, this A_D_A_M guy^^^^^ has a Kove Armageddon M-15
just like I do, those are unbeliveable subs, I never seen the sheet metal of my car do waves before I threw that beast in there. That sub can take loads of abuse. Im a big fan of Kove today as a result.

It's a great sub, you can throw loads of power and not kill it but it's pretty pointless. It starts to audibly suffer from power compression when you start to throw more that 500-600W RMS on it.
