Some advice needed

Hey,

I drive a 92 es 300 and am looking for some more rumble in my trunk, SPL is what i am after. I currently have a 12" infinity kappa in a sealed box with a fosgate 601s amp. It has served me well though i am looking for way more rumble. I would like to keep the price low and unless it is of a serious disadvantage have a single sub. I have been looking at kicker solo barics but i really have no idea what to look for. I am more than capable of building a quality box and just want as much boom as i can get without spending a ton or having capacitors and such. Any input would be appreciated!

Cheers,Elliott.

Using the existing amp? What kind of budget on the new sub?

An L7 in a vented box, with that amp would pound nicely.

I ran one for abit on a punch45 hd and it shook my mirror pretty good, for spl purpose L7s are good and can be had fairly cheap.

If i could use the existing amp that would be better as i could save myself some money, I would prefer to spend 250 or less on a sub. Would getting another kappa to make a pair be advisable?

The first thing to do is get a properly tuned ported box. The Kappa you have will come alive. If your REALLY looking for SPL adding a second one in a properly tuned ported box will also do you well. However you mentioned that budget is/may be an issue, if so MR2NR is right we would need your budget for better advice.

P.S. The Kappa's aren't really "Loud"(spl) subs more of an SQ sub, but going from a sealed to a properly ported box is usually enough of a differance for people. When I had my referance 1240W I gaind 4.2DB just by going from a sealed to ported(properly tuned of course!) box.

Sure add one more and port em would pound! But you cant cause your amp is only stable to 4 ohms bridged.

The Kappa's should actually be a dual 2 configuration. There should be a switch that allows you to select a 1 or 4 ohm load. Just make sure if you have 2 that they're both at 4 and hooked up in paralell or, both at 1 hooked up in series both way's will get you your 2 ohm load. The problem is I never bothered to check out your amp the 601s is a 2 channel amp and you cannot use 2 of the kappa's with that amp. If you hook them up to the amp briged the amp will fail. If you hook them up at 4 ohms each and one sub to each channel they will only get 150 watts each which is not enough to power them properly. You will nedd to get a mono block amp capable of making 600 watts rms @ 2 ohms if you intend on using 2 of these subs

Elliot, with the amp you have, I would suggest you use a single DD1512 or if you can stretch that budget some, a dual 2 ohm DD2512 would be amazing. 100% no if's and's or but's, you are going to be building a new slot port box. This will bring your output to life over what you have right now.
