SPL Box for MTX Thunder
SPL Box for MTX Thunder
Let me start off by saying that this is not my set up, so I'm not 100% on the fine details, I am posting this up for a friend.
A friend currently got 2 12" MTX Thunders, 9500 series. He wants more SPL from this and is basicly willing to give the entire trunk of his 06 Ford Fusion for it. Only one sub is connected to the amp and the amp is an Alpine MRD-1005. I know that the amp is 1000RMS at 2 Ohm and 700RMS at 4 Ohm. Apparently the Thunders take 750-1000RMS but are a 4 Ohm sub, but only one terminal on it, making me think its a 2 Ohm sub. Any input would be great as to how to wire the sub to amp and any specs on an SPL box would be great.
Sorry for blabbing, just the more info the better... right?

each coil will be 4 ohms so if it has one set of terminals then it's a Single 4 ohm voice coil, if it has two sets, then it's a Dual 4 ohm voice coil which can be 2 or 8 ohms.
So if it's a DVC then get another one of those Alpine amps and run one per sub. If they're SVC's... then time to get some more power. I suggest running the box design that comes with the woofers, that's what I'm doing and it's pretty freakin' loud for a single 10. (most people thing it's three 12's or a pair of 15's).
