For DB Drags, is it better to tune your box higher or lower.

my box: 4.1 cf - 3.9 cf after bracing, slot port and subs. currently tuned to somewhere around 42-45 Hz. Loudest burp seems to be at around 55 Hz note.

Subs: 2 - Memphis 10" HPO's

Amp: Planet Audio 2500D

Car: 94 Hyundai Hatch back.

Thanks,

Dan

That's a good place to start, just start chopping off port(to tune higher), until you stop gaining.

Yes Dan, a higher tuned box it's also always louder than one that's tunned lower.
Get it metered yet by any chance?

No JT, I just hooked it up last night to hear it. Its just a "prototype" so to speak. Its made of ¾" plywood cuz I dont pay for it. Also, Its only dry fitted, no glue or silicone and just enough screws to hold it together. Once I finalize the design, it will be made from MDF

Tuning a box higher doesnt ALWAYS make it louder. IT depends totally on the surroundings your enclosure is in. Where the box is firing and how far from the mic what woofers play's a marginal role. In many cars people tune tooone high like Tinted last year was tuned to high as he found later on he had a few more db's in the bag once he add some port length. The best way like someonelse said is to test and chopp till you find your max Spl and the proper frequency for your SPL setup

your car will determine your tuning....find the peak of your car and then maybe play around with enclosure tuning
