SPL and Invert Mount
Hello,
Is there an advantage of invert mounted subs when it comes to spl? would it be any better or louder? |
Inverted is worse, because it adds volume to the box, and everybody knows that smaller boxes are louder.
|
So build a smaller box to compensate for the difference? :dunno:
|
technically u could build a way smaller box if it was inverted, cuz u could build it smaller than the basket height....common murilo...lol
|
^^^ lol. it was very late when he posted, leave him be :P
|
inverted is minimum of 2db louder but the problem with it is that if you mount inverted people can't see the brand of woofer you are using so noone has done it out of respect for their sponsers who give them large amounts of cash to run their product
|
i think the main reason people dont try inverted is because the basket/motor will be infront of the a-pillar or above the window line.
Theoretically it should work better as you dont have the basket/motor disrupting the wave from the cone inside the enclosure |

hahaha I was kidding
you take the thing too serious hahaha... |
Actually is 0.5 to 1dB quieter...
With volume compensation... :) |
lol i was trying to be funny!

not a good theory dude..... a speaker makes two waves "back<front.
So how would you stop the rear wave from being obstructed? perhaps eliminate the motor all together? Some guys guys gain from switching from 6 spoke to 12 spoke baskets or vice versa because it doesnt obstruct the rear wave as much. Or from rounding any sharp corners on the basket itself. A more aerodynamic basket/motor structure would surely be a nice gain if the performance was still there. |

New comers are always Welcome. Just stick to the thread topics you post on or start your own, if new/off topic. |
I have often wondered this same thing, whether there was any advantage/disadvantage to running the sub inverted.
The only disadvantage i noticed personally was that i was a moron and ended up mounting the sub slightly off center (new box and nothing to mark the positioning of the sub over the cutout) and messed up the surround a bit. This was years ago and have never tried it since. Has anyone ever tried metering their setup inverted vs conventional? |
