SPL meter
hey ppl got a question for someone that knows.
i had the chance to check out my spl output yesterday and i used a SPL1000. i would like to know how accurate it is ( underated or overared??) sub off blasted with no distortion i get 110.2db. and with subs only i get 123.8db. soo what i need to know is that is if there is an error on the meter. by how much db's approx difference is there compared to TL. i seem disapointed tat i only 123.8db on that meter lol cause i seems alot louder than the other cars i checked this weekend also ( 200watt rms 12" single sony 122.3, 600watt rms 2x GBL 12" 122.8 ) plus they sound like lmao |
where did you do this test?
in kapuskasing
i forgot its made by scorche
Completly inaccurate, its a 50 dollar meter. Come to north bay in a couple of weeks and get properly metered. From what i see you have for equipment you should have no problem doing over 140 db
ya well i have to redo my box lol my previous one was louder than my curent one. and from what i can see financially i prob wont be able to go. but when i go to sudbury there a shop on ... umm forgot the name of the street lol its the one that has biancos on it. anyway they have the 2008 TL and my bud works there soooo if i cant make it ill go there
lol it did seemed low cause its hard to beleive that one sony 12" was doing a 122 with only 200watts rms and me 1.8db more with 2 12" and 1000watts rms thanks eh ill do my best to show up lol |
No one in the sudbury area has a TL, let alone any measurement devices. I know this due to asking local business if they would like to have shows done for them or if they can offer a show themselves. Biancos used to have an AC when one of their long time installers used to work there. I would still come out to north bay with the box you have, you never know how you might do.
its the shop in close by toyota dealership that sells clarion. and my buddy says that theyre TL is upgraded every 2 years. now i dont know why they would why they wouldnt do a show when it can bring potential customers lol ( maybe they dont want more than they have) but anyway ill try to make it at the show
You are talking about Northern Autosound and they do not have a Term Lab or anyother meter. Guarenteed. Get some cars together and drive to North Bay on the 10th of August. That will be the true test.
ya thats the one i was talking about. and as of getting a bunch of guys and go there is kinda slim lol. they live 2 hours away from me and they are a bunch of crum bums with no cash or car to drive hahhaha
but as i said.. ill try and go if i can get some spare cash for gas. ( actually ill check if my new partner from work would like to come lol ) just for the fun of it i applyed to be an installer for FS and well i got the job .. should fill in the crave for installs eh lol aaannyyywayyssss lol ill do my best to go if i do i hope to see you guys there. should be interesting for my first view at a comp. |
what fs did you get hired on at?
the one in timmins thats opening in sept.
my buddy misinformed me lol he says that they get sponcered once in a while.. thats all i got out of him
Come out to the show in North Bay. You won't believe how much you will learn in just a few hours. There will be many cars from Toronto and Southern Ontario that will make the trip worth it.
is there a small fee to check out by a TL how loud my system is??? thats the biggest reason y i want to go ( doing my best to go too lol) and 2nd i want to see how ppl do theyre stuff and learn.
It's not that far to North Bay from where you are, just drive down, lol
I'm going to be up North that weekend, where is the show/what's it called? |
well i have a van not a car its 3 3 1/2 hours from here and a round trip would cost me around 80$ 90$ maybe not but since money is tight right now i have to make sure i have at least 100$ lol
heres the address 425 fisher street starts at noon |
There is a $20 charge for the show.
allright thanks
you should come out, it should be pretty good, you can see the difference between a tuned and untuned system
lol i wonder if someone there could help me retune my setup. and maybe give some pointers on it. cause i still cant seem to quite firgure out how to work the frequency dial to get it right on lol.
its loud and sounds great now but another set of ear would be nice ( and not those know it all guys from here lmao ) |
man i think that my alt is going out lol i lose a full volt when i crank . 13.94 to 12.88volts
frequency dial? are you talkin about the xover?
for spl you should either turn the xover off or open it up all the way. |
ya xover lol. but if its for daily bass you dont turn it off ??? sounds like when i bring it all the way down. and all the way up i start having voices and still sounds like crap
to make it sound right do i need to put my LPF on the deck to full pass or 50, 80 or 120. then on the amp i have 2 dials to play with for tuning i have sub sonic witch i have no clue what it does from 10hz to 50 i think. then the LPF from 10hz to 300hz
and my box is retuned to 30ish hz |
bass eq is also off
http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/DD_SS1/outside2.jpg theres a pic to give an idea of what im looking at
The gain has to do with your output voltage on your deck. Your LPF will only play notes UP to what you set it to (ex.70hz). Your subsonic will allow you to play notes DOWN to what you set it to (ex.30hz). Your bass eq or boost allows you to adjust the db level of bass from your amp. Do not touch your phase it is fine @0, that is if they are in different enclosures and youre subs are not quite moving at the same time. Youre gain is where you have to be careful. Turn your deck volume up 75% gain at the lowest first, then start to turn the gain up until you hear distortion, then back then dial down a bit. If you are that worried you can contact me and i can help you out, i am in sudbury.
thanks well so far i know how to set the gain lol but i dont get distortion when i bring it up. it just seems like my voltage drops to low or something and the bass stops till i bring it a tad down. and well so far my LPF is set to around 65hz and subsonic to 20hz. witch sounds quite nice right now and loud enough to make my pennies jump around lol. if i show up over ill try to find you. i got a gray grand caravan with back plate from kapuskasing lol. ( your the one that has the brownish cavalier right??? or sunfire)
Not quite brown...lol Its canyon red, silver, and multi flake cavalier.
ya thats the one lol thought it had some brown but canyon red is close :P
ohh i retuned my system. put the deck LPF to all pass then retuned the amp. its louder allright but it just seems that my SQ whent away. but ill play with it a bit more later on this week and try to get it just right.
if i was going to enter the comp. what class would i be in?? and im not the type of guy that wants to do just tones. i want to use music, so there must be a class that uses that right?? |
You would be in AMA2, and you would be playing music.
what is required to be in that level??? system restrictions?? wire runs, battery, amp power, ....???
One run negative and power, 1-15,2-12,3-10, 100 amp fusing maximum, with a maximum amplifier rating of 1500rms @1ohm. Battery under 800 cu.in. and only music.
i should be allright then. thanks also is there a site with the rules of each type of levels of comps.?? im looking around and i can find squat
lol well this is a gay rule. only store bought cd's allowed. all my awsome bass songs are on my thumbdrive
There is no fuse rule anymore.
well thats good. only have a 60amp anyway lol so still only original cd allowed????
I have one of those scoshe meters adn my type x metered at 138.7 which was still complete BS because i was jamming with a sunfire that measured 143.3 and it wasnt much louder than mine *if any*. the sunfire was on a TL.
