Ok this my be a stupid question but it may also not be. So I'm gonna ask it anyway.

When you're competing they say location of the sub(s) partially will have something to do with the number you hit.

If you had a pair of subs in the trunk positioned correctly, but also had a sub in the centre console (like the sub box dukk made for SUX 2BU), would that make any difference versus having all three in the trunk

- I haven't competed yet as my car kicked the bucket and I haven't had the extra cash or time laying around to get more into competing. As to why this question may sound stupid to some.

Positioning makes a big difference. Not to say which would be better or worse, but I know that some people lose a few db's when turning the box around, or moving it forwards/backwards.

Yeah I've heard quite a few different things towards the positioning of a box in a trunk. Some say it sounds louder facing out to the back of the car and some say it sounds louder facing the back seats. I found mine when i had it sounded better facing the license plate.

But generally I'd like to know if someone was to place a 3rd sub in the actual car interior excluding the trunk if it would hit higher (even by 1dB) than if the 3rd sub was in the trunk with the other 2. Anyone ever tried this

Like trunk positioning there are too many variables to say for sure what will happen on the mic.
Just take cancellation for example. Put a home theater sub in your living room and play a constant tone. You will hear the bass get louder/quieter when walking around the room.
Add a second sub in another location in the room and do the same test. You are likely to have completely different results from the first time.
So if it was once the loudest when sitting on your couch (like what you are trying to achieve at meter location) it may now be one of the quietest places in the room (meter location).
You might be able to get it louder again but then you have to move one of the driver's again and experiment.

Get it?

An FYI though.. putting a sub in the center console is illegal for the street classes.

Basically your subs must all be in the trunk/hatch.

Anything closer to the front would put you in advanced or street max.

Yes that is fine behind the seat. As long as the subs do not cross in front of the B-pillar. Although being behind the B-pillar cut-throughs into the box of a truck will put you in super street or street max.

I'd just like to stick to street a or mini street if they even still carry that class.

As well...If I read the rule book correctly(feel free to correst me if I am mistaken),that any mods to the OE centre console will be an automatic bump into Extreme....I know someone who was going to build a custom centre console for a SS vehicle, but nixed it when we showed him the rule book.
