ok here's what happened..last night I was cleaning up the connections on my battery bank in my VW Rabbit... took off the buss barss ..sanded them and replaced them...all just nicely sitting in the cargo area of the car... all 8 of my 6 volt batteries... it was late at night and I was tired so decided to go for a quick drive to grab my coffee and smokes... as I pulled out of timmies and headed back to the shop ...my engine stalled out... and the lights went out...im thinkin to myself...WTF...suddenly my car started filling with smoke and the engine bay too..I look back to see and there were flames shooting uo in the back of my car...I jumped out like crazy and opened the hatch to find my possitive buss bar arcing onto the body of the car and the carpeting was caught on fire... nice of a cop top come flying up behing me out of nowhere with a fire extinguisher...but I didnt need it...I managed to get the flames out... and realized that I didnt replace my passenger side battery brace and they all slid and shorted on the chassis ground...slightly off track the cop recognised me and said he used to compete against me about 6 years ago in a CRX ...he saw everything was ok and called off the firetruck he had called ...
anyways..moral of the story...always make sure any extra batteries you have in the vehicle are well mounted and secured in place...and do not allow your buss bars to extend past the batteries(mine are long enough for 5 batteries wide...only had 4 wide in the car)..the rabbit lives now all I have to do is put a fuse in the system...and it'll be ok as my battery bank is the only power source in the car..no front battery... gotta love diesel

i always forget when i'm tightening the bolts on my bus bars that the tools i use don't have rubber handels, and usually end up banging a terminal when the other one is being tightened. result --> wrenches with a few melted ends on them.
oh well, a lesson learned.
