3' x 3' x 1' is a ton of space to deal with. Why only limit yourself to a pair of 10s?

If your truly out for SPL, then go as big as you have space for. You could easily get a pair of DD1000 Series 12" in that area in a nice big ported box that'll do some great SPL numbers, keep within your budget and still maintain that degree of SQ anyone would be looking for in a daily subwoofer. Put a solid 800W to that setup and you'd be posting some great numbers.

If the budget increases, go up to more power and a pair of Digital Designs 2500 series.

just to clearify, what is a great spl number? and will that number get higher/better as the sub being used gets more and more expensive?

As mentioned before.. you'd have to identify what a 'good # in spl' is...

If you're running 2 x 10" subs then you'd want to put up something close to a 150.0 for it to be considered 'good'. (the world record now is in the 156 range I believe.. but there are only a handful of Canadians doing over 150)

You will get nowhere near that number with DD 1010's and 800w.
