i'd keep the type x.

the L5's may get a little louder, but the type x is going to sound a whole lot better and still get loud.

I gotta agree here. But i am a bit biased against kickers. They just simply dont sound good. The type X sounds a whole lot better as already mentioned.

if i choose to go with a sealed box, will the type X still have that hard base you can hear coming from a mile away? BTW, thanks for all your input so far.

I would personally stick with a ported box, but that's just me. I cant imagine a sealed box being heard from TOO far away...but then, i'm not a pro or anything so i could be wrong.
It's like 3db or so more just going to a half decent ported box from sealed, so obviously you can expect some sound loss.

no.

if you want bass that travels far, use the L5's, lots of power, in a huge ported box.

Just keep in mind the L5s probably wont sound nearly as good as your type X. But again, im pretty biased. Although i will admit, those kickers can get pretty loud. I just like my system to sound good at the same time.

why would you want to be heard from a mile away? thats just sound escaping from your car.

if you are just looking to get loud and don't care what i sounds like, go with the kickers in a ported enclosure.

Actually i gotta admit, i kinda like the idea of being heard from a mile away. lol
Unfortunately that also means more risk of gettin robbed in your sleep. lol
More attention means more people interested in what ya got in that trunk.
