so from what i'm getting the alpine bass is more crisp, and of better quality while the kicker is louder but more distorted?

I have a dual kicker box in a wagon/small suv and it is a good way to get low and loud without a lot of money and effort. However Im considering going to a single better SQ 10" now. Id like to make it out to a SQ comp just to see what kind of improvement I could get.

I would go with the kickers in a ported box my friend has 2 of them and they hit hard and sound great

I would agree, the Kickers in a ported box with a nice big amp pushing them will get plenty loud.

Keep the X if you like the quality of sound you are getting now if you just want to be louder get the L5's.
