4-8s versus 1-15"
Yes, I'm working on the 3-way system as we speak. Very happy with the mids/tweets and hopefully will have the new sub enclosure finished for my new single 12"............. in a "ported" box.
As for designing the perfect system, although you may love 8" the MORE pieces you introduce, the less perfect things "may" become. I think ideally you want a 2-way front stage and a single sub. That's the best system layout I can think of. Mind you, I could never get my 2-way system to work right.......... which I now believe was a function of the interior design of the truck OR a lack of skillz and patience!!! Anyways, back to the 8". If you love the 8", should have looked into a 3-way component set that includes an 8". I know DLS carries such a set ........... and I'm thinking about scooping a pair of those 8" for a test to see what can be achieved up front.
As for the 18" ti, not ever in my truck........ was thinking about that for home theatre but came up with a pair of 8 ohm 15" instead. Although I once owned an Image Dynamics IDW 18" that I thought I was going to put in the truck, but never got around to it. Would have been interesting though.

Dave, very good point. Drivers sound drastically different when they are broken in properly, especially a sub.
The Brahma was in Fuel37s car for about a week. After which, he was complaining of ear-aches and more panel rattles in his car. From the volume levels that I know he likes to play music, yes I'd say that the Brahma was broken in.
8Trackboy, I'll send you a PM soon.

Weddings are expensive, you know what I mean?
Once I am done messing with the Tang Bang 8-inch, you guys will get a glimpse of what I am up to.

It's Tang-Band! Tang-Band! Tang-Band!
Thought maybe if I said it 3 times it would stick in
I have played with 2 8's in both a ported and an ABC box, and compared to my 12, the 8's do hit very nice and are very "fast", but just don't go that low in the ported box. With the ABC box however
You wouldn't believe the low end, but because of such the large box volume you do lose alot of the punchiness (if that is a word) Also it was 3dB louder than a certain other 12 I had in a ported box with the same power. Maybe Dave will want to try out the ABC box too lol jk I know you're very busy I'll stick with a 12 anyways just for the nice back massage

I will support Tom's start about needing more capable midbass with a larger driver. With smaller subwoofers you can have less capable midbass.
Since I generally flop between 8s and 15s it seems, I am always extremely concious of what midbass I will be using.
I still prefer a 3way front end
