5" subs in the dash?
I would like to bring the bass infront of me and if possible keep it high (eye level). I sold my mono 800 Rms kenwood that was pushing a 12" JL w3v2 in the trunk and I noticed that I really enjoyed the quality of the bass that was just being produced from the doors of my 6.5" polyglass focal running off an audison lrx 2.250. I'm looking for people who can comment on putting four 5" focal 13ws be subs in the dash. I know I can never compete with the spl of my old set up but will I enjoy the money spent on high quality bass? or should I be looking at putting two 8" subs in the door and lifting the 6.5's to the A-pillar?
note: the 13ws's are capible of 75w rms. with four I would be looking to put about 500w rms into them total (250 a side)
the 8's would be JL w7's and I would use the same amp.

I wouldn't try to put 6.5's in an A pillar.
I know the mini subs in the dash has been done to great effect in cars in the past, but what you'd need to consider is the install difficulty. You will need enclosures to get much performance out of them, so there would be substantial fabrication in the dash.
W7's in the door would also be huge fabrication, as I would not run them freeair. Plus, where do you put the 6.5? Could do kicks depending on the car...

I dont think the W7 is a door option, they are just too deep. 8" subs in a door should make a good deal of subsonic fury and beat the snot out of the door but it has been done (proceed with caution). The smaller woofers in the dash would be interesting but I think they would be a more interesting option in the door.
if you have access to a shallow woofer you could use the passenger side foot well... good luck

I enjoy fiberglassing
I would fiberglass every encloser myself to save money but time would still be an issue. And good call on the 8" being too deep for the door, your probly right (without a hugh encloser/speaker poking at your leg 24-7)
The car is a chrysler cirrus and I should also mention that the 6.5" focals are part of a three way set so I already have a tweet and a 4" mounted in the dash. I made custom boxes last year for the 6.5 to go in the a pillars but they where too small and I could clearly hear the speaker get cut off around 80htz so it kinda defeated the purpose of bringing the bass up high and in front but I did still really like them there (I could hear parts of the mid bass I had never heard before).
I've been using expandable spray foam (in a garbage bag) to take the molds, then shape them with a file, then fiberglasse that. It actually works quite well but sanding the fiberglass after is the worst.
my dream would be to have two one-offs for each side of the dash and use lock-lug nuts to secure them so they cant get stolen. Then mount a 12" lcd where my deck is and hook everything up to a miniMac... We'll see if that happens!
If anyone has heard these 5" focal subs please let me know how they made you feel... it's slowly becoming my only option but I'm scared to spend all this time and money without being totally certain that this is what I want.

zzzzzzzz SQ competition allows for subs up front, SPL competition will not allow for subs up front
