6X9 suggestion
Isn't this model 2 ohm version?
I have by the way, DLS Reference(R964) 6x9's I could sell brand new in the box. They are top of the line, and come with separate crossover unit. Of course, they will shine on an amp, but they are 93db I believe, so will work ok after a break-in period. PM me if interested. They have a mellow tweeter, so if looking for something bright, these are not it. Tweeter also swivels to direct sound, well like I said, TOP OF THE LINE! Not sure if there are better 6x9's out there.

...and I take it this is from the years of comparing every 6x9 with every component set ever made? ohhh....it's from regurgitating the b** you picked up from your 3 hours of trolling the boards that has made you an expert in sound reproduction and bestowed you with golden ear listening skills. My friend, after you've heard a few hundred different sets of components, co-axials, point source, 3 ways etc... over 25 years in dozens of different vehicles, then maybe you can make a similar claim. Until then, your blanket statement has no merit, and quite frankly it never will. To assume that "almost any component system will outperform a set(that's any set) of 6x9's" is ignorant at best, and just plain stupid. Welcome to the board.

"True Four Ohms— All Power Series speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Power Series has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and can be safely driven by any head unit."
I have driven these from the head unit directly with no problems, but in my case I always use amps, and I always encourage their use (since they're so cheap these days).
6x9's
Should try to consider Eclipse's SP6900 6x9 components (tweeters are separatable) and comes with x'overs as well and its on sale at the moment!
This is JBL's take on the 2ohm bit;

Ding ding, Chris from 4boysss nailed it. If the guy wants some incredible speakers, the Eclipse pointsource 6x9 are on sale. Well worth it for him if he wants good sound. They can be either a coax or component and come with outboard crossovers.
would these do well off of a stock radio?
