8 inch SQ??

So I've been hunting for a SQ 8" sub. Now, problem is, there's 2 shops locally that carry car audio, future shop (booo) and another local shop who has recently become an alpine dealer, and I'm not really into it.

So, my question is this, if you SQ nuts were to put a 8" sub, in the trunk of a small sedan, which would produce wonderful sounds, what would you choose? And, in what type of enclusure?

I've been looking at the JL Audio HO108R-W7, which is the 8" W7 in the high output vented box. Now, i can't find these anywhere in Canada, not even on ebay. There was one that sold here for $350, but I missed that f***ing deal. LOL

What else is out there?

Thx

John

Here is the Newfoundland JL Audio Dealer

Central Truck Cap

30 Memorial Dr

Gander

Newfoundland

A1V 1W8

709 256-2777

Also the JBL GTO804 is not a bad sub either. How much power are you wanting to put into it?

HAHAHAHAHA, Action truck caps is the local dealer for Jl, you have got to be kidding me. I'll never buy from that place.

Well it's not about power, its about the 8" in a proper box putting enough sound through the car. I know an 8 can do it, but, like, lets say the infinity 8" reference, that's just not gonna do it.

I was thinking a single 8, but those GTO's only come in 4ohm, I could go 2 and put a nice clean amp to 2 ohms.

Hmmm, always on top of things you are steve!!

Lightbulb

I used to run a single 8 in an ABC in my civic hatchback. On 150watts it was very impressive.

Now I run 4 in my SX:

Don't write off the Infinity 8s so fast. One or two in the proper box can be very nice.

IIRC, there is a fellow with the older Eclipse aluminum cone 8's that are in the FS section here on the site. They are a amazingly good SQ sub in a small sealed box. Perfect for what you need. From what I recall the subs are new as well.

Yeah I've been talking to him about those. It's more (in total-subs, box, amp) then I want to spend, simply because I'll never get anything for those subs locally when I sell them, people locally are super cheap when they don't know what hi-end. It's all pioneer, infinity & rockford here, unless you get someone like me who's into the scene, and we're few and far between.

At least I'd be able to sell the JL setup again here or on ebay when I'm done with it in 1.5 years when I will become car-less.
