95 or 96 escort??
95 or 96 escort??
hey just wonderin if a 95 ford escort 2dr would be a decent starting point for a first SQ build?
or is SQ something you can make work in any vehicle?
i know SPL is better in some vehicles but not sure about SQ

hmm depends i guess on how far out your gunna go any car can be great for sq if you rip the hole thing down and start from scratch, i dont know the place ments of speakers and stuff for just a bolt on upgrade i think sq has alot to do with the sound dedenting and it also has alot to do with speaker placement like i said if you dynamatte your hole car make custom speaker mount locations and make everything right you could make a little escort a really nice sounding car
deadening the whole car would be a little pricey but i will be doing custom speaker locations and the such as i would like to get into car audio as a career.. there will be alot of trial and error with this build as it will be my first build so i guess either way its gonna be a little pricey.. lol but i'm aiming towards a morel 3 way set for the fronts.. still undecided for the rear and subs amp and HU however..

Personally, I wouldn't worry about starting with high end equipment at first....creating a system with decent SQ can be done with entry level stuff, the old saying "it's 90% the install and 10% the equipment" is still true.
The best cars always start with a plan and a budget....since you have the vehicle already, time to find out what fits in the factory locations, how much room you have for the sub box, possible locations for mounting amps, where wire runs can go etc. Put it down on paper....it doesn't have to be fancy but being able to see it laid out like that will help. Once you have a basic idea of what you will be doing, time to get your hands dirty.....get the door panels off so you can see for yourself how big the factory speakers really are, how they are mounted and what, if anything (including sound deadener) you will need to do to mount new ones.
Unless you have prior experience using fiberglass, bondo and a router I would leave the 3 way set for a later date.....it's a big job for the pro's, never mind a beginner and the frustration level may just turn you off the whole idea of doing audio for a living before you even get started......

A pair of comps upfront, mids in the doors and tweets in the 'A' pillars and 1 or 2 subs in the trunk is enough to get that car sounding sweet.....for SQ focusing on proper environments (air space, aiming and electrical) for the speakers is essential.........tuning the system once it is all installed is another thread altogether.......

Be prepared to make at least 2 sub boxes.....the first one will always make you wonder how the woofers you picked would sound in a different enclosure and if you plan on getting into the biz you will need to practice anyways.....

@ the OP: BigRedGuy is right. Start small if you're just starting in car audio. It's a science that if you take too much right at the start, it isn't fun at all. If I told you to build a space station and gave you the best parts to build it, are you going to be able to build it right the first time? Highly doubt it, so start with a bottle rocket (so to speak) and work your way from there. It'll be waaay more rewarding cuz as you progress to bigger challenges and expectations you will always have that impressive feeling when you're done, and you'll have fun doing it.
being a previous owner of an escort myself I've heard a few setups in escorts with focal, jl audio, alpine, etc, all great sounding setups I don't think the car really matters SQ wise at all as long as its all staged right
thanks for the replys guys
very helpful
and i don't have the car right now its just a good chance i'll be able to buy it off my parents if they still have it sitting in they're yard and havn't sold it yet :P as for just starting small with a comp set i'm thinking of buying a 3 way and just using the mid and the tweeter off the start and over time constructing door mounts as i won't have a shop to work in quite yet.. would taking one of the speakers inhibit the performance of the speakers?
i don't have a budget set out for this build as of yet but i'm willing to spend the cash on higher end equipment. but basically my goal with this system is to make it sound as if there is a concert on my dash. i listen to alot of metal so the quality of the sound is essential to me cause i'd like to be able to pick out every guitar lick, bass line and kick drum played. would going with cds be better then going with an external hard drive hooked up through the rear usb give me a better quality of sound?

oh and i'm still living in bc on the island and moving back to the prairies at either the end of this month or end of march. so if it owuld be possible to listen to any SQ setups to check out the gear that owuld amazing. i do believe my car would be the first pure SQ build up in grande prairie if i'm not mistaken. but the guys up there just through a couple subs and an amp in they're car and call it good.. lol
