possibly converting????

so ive been away from this site and car audio all together for probably close to two years... im getting back into it and im really thinking about a bit of a change from what i normally do..

i have always had a passion for loud, clear, music which has been decent in my home but in my car ive always kinda been missing something. its always been a loud daily driver but never really been.... full enough??? i feel like theres always been something missing.

my step dad was always an sq guy and and i was more spl i guess.. so naturally i had him in the bass dept. but as far as the rest he was miles aheaad of me..

would there be a huge difference between an ecliple AVN6610 dvd deck and the kenwood ddx 714??

can anyone give me some good starting points as to what i may need to get a nice loud, clear system??? (that may sound like a dumb question but im leaving it open to get alot of opinions)

for amps right now ive got two earthquake d10s.. im guessing they arent are very good sq amp eh? lol

i have never really done an sq set up so i will say that i am totally oblivious to the staging needed, ect.

when saying im going for an sq set up i am only meaning more sq than ive had, im not looking to do some world class setup that give a more full range of good clear sound if you will...

what do you sq guys run for a set up? deck, amps, subs, mids, ect?

personally, i think quality starts from the source down. ...and never forget, simplicity is your friend. don't get dragged into thinking you need every feature out there to acheive sq or some big processor.

i would be investing in a quality headunit before anything.
most quality headunits have good crossovers and eqs, so for amps i'd be looking for efficiency at your needed power over anything. once you get into quality amps, the sq coming out of them is arguably unoticable.
speakers are the hardest part to recommend because everyones taste varies so much. like anything you generally get what you pay for, but in the end, get what sounds best to you.
a key thing to remember, just because some products are great, it does not mean they are going to mesh together well. try and find items that are going to integrate with each other well. (this applies mostly to speakers)

and most importantly, install.
deadening and dampening greatly help, proper placement of drivers etc.

this is all just personal opinion, others will undoubtedly disagree with some points, but take it for what its worth!

right on, thanks.. it will be my first setup that i actually put much heart into.. i was always a loud daily driver and everyone thought it was the but i could tell there was alot missing ahah. id like to try to stick to the brands i can buy locally, dales always been awesome.. not sure what he will say when i tell him i want to lean more towards sq though ahaha.. jk.. reason i asked about those two dvd decks is because i think im getting a good deal on them.. both are new.. ones 500 ones 600.. im not sure what year that eclipse is.. its one a guys had sitting in his house new..

a good sounding system is realtively easy to do these days, "good sounding" being subjective ofcourse. Any cd based head unit will deliver a more than adequate signal, any brand name amp will deliver quality amplification, so what you are left with is speaker choice and install. Based on your opening statement, you're looking for good overall SQ, with plenty of output....what's come to be known as an SQL system by most on these boards. Depending on your budget, I would look for high power handling brand name components for the front, JBL, Alpine, Focal, Morel, Hertz, pioneer etc...all have good to great units to choose from. One of my personal favourites for loud, clean, concert hall type sound is JBL power and GTI series components, I find the c608 gti an excellent all round sounding set for SQL. If loud is what you want, then adding rear 6x9's help with that in a big way. I've always been a fan of good quality 6x9 coaxials with dome tweeters and separate outboard crossovers for loud, clean sound. Look for a 100x4 rms amp to power the 4 corners with lots of output. Subs, you know SPL, so use what you know, and temper it by choosing a more sq oriented sub, though many spl subs sound really good in the right box...my choice for best SQL sub is the JBL gti, followed by the ID max, and I still love the Alpine type x, there obviously hundreds to choose from, and everyone will have their favourite. As you're aware the box is most important, and a good sql design with a ported box tuned in 30-40 hz range seems to consistently deliver good results. Power it with a good quality amp as always and you have an SQL system that will please your ears, your friend's ears, get loud, and can be done relatively easily, without major mods, or expensive custom install.

not familiar with the 2 of them. I can say that the SQ should be minimal, and really it's more the features you want, and aesthetics you prefer. They are both very reputable companies that produce good products.

ive bought from dale for about 12 years now.. only reason i was looking at these two is because they 500 and 600 and both new in the box. i believe that those are good prices but if im wrong, let me know.
