I've been always a passive x-over guy...now with my front end upgrade project I'm starting to wonder if active is the best route!

First off my front stage is 6.5" 4" 1" Focal K2 and sub is 13" Focal K2

I'd like to have all the x-over, TA, and gain controls right off the deck.

I'm wondering if I'll need an external xover since my front end ins 3way + NF!

I'm unsure if my Eclipse CD7100 will do 3way output + NF

that deck won't do 4-way properly and remain fully controllable, very few decks can. one that will and do it well is the Clarion DRZ9255 (there are others, I just dont know them off the top of my head).

You could use a passive between say your tweets and mids then run the rest active (less control) or looking into external processing options like the H701 combo.


by the way WTF is "NF"??

 

NF = Non Fading = Sub out

Personally, I would try and use what you have. Keep the deck, get a good 3way active processor (they can be had for under $100 used, you don't need any time align etc since you have a very capable deck.)Get a cheep amp for you tweets (you don't need much, 50w*2 is overkill for tweets) and a 4chn for your 6.5s & 4s. This will give you full crossover control over all 3 drivers, and it's still all driven off the front output of your deck.

is there anyway I can attenuate the 4" mid?? I can control the tweeter not the mid!

What I'm doing with my Pioneer 800PRS is running the tweeters off of a two channel DD amp controlled with the "high" output. The midbass and the midrange are run off of a 4 channel DD amp in parallel from my "mid" output and my subs are run to my DD M3 from the "low" output.
The sensitive area is tuning the x-over points from the midbass to the midrange, which gets done at the amp. Fortunately, my DD S4 has that kind of total control.
So from the deck, I can control the output to my rca's very well. The dual 16 band eq helps to tweek wy system to the RTA well.

I thought the 800prs had networking (true 3way, high, mid, sub) off the deck? I know the 880prs does.

 

You can use the amp gains for attenuating if you amp each stage seperatly. Otherwise you have to build a pad circuit.

 

Pad Circuit it is - any suggestions?
