alpine
For Basic feature I would agree that Kenwood is better for the price. But I still choose Alpine for my car as they have products for SQ (H701). So if all you need is a basic deck I would go for the Kenwood.
had a cdx-590 i use to believe in the and this one i had to send back three times once pre-out 2, display 3, overheated. so now im switching companies. And i've heard nothing bad about alpine. the reason for the two modles the 9815 i can get from a friend ant the other a display model. for dirt cheap are they basically the same? witch is a better deck.

and the 9855 does 80% of what a 701 will do!
9855 is last years model. And at Best it would do 25% of the H701. The newer models are pretty stripped down. So I will stick with my statement that if your on a budget, you will get more from Kenwood.

BINGO!!!! ^^^^ I could not have said it any better. However he said he could get a deal on those two units.
Both of the Alpines you mentioned are great H/U's. Personally I would go with the 9815. More features and control.
Check out the different specs at www.alpine1.com, then support, then product technical info, Product Feature & Specification Sheets, choose head units, and compare all decks by Alpine.

I have an Alpine 9855, love it. SQ is good, features are great. Don't know the exact model of this years replacement, but you need the time correction if you want SQ. some shops still have last years model on clearance sale.
If you want to go better, go with the Ecplise with the auto-setup time correction. but thats bucks
