9885 (which is out soon) will probably go for about $339ish and the 9887 (which will come out around may/june) will be about $479ish

*edit*
hell, if you just want to use the ipod, check THIS out, the IDA-X001. No cd transport, just ipod and usb interface...24bit dac and it DOES NOT use the dac on the ipod, uses the 24 bit...also alpine claims it is the fastest ipod deck by far!

should be around the same price as the 9887
I like the look of that thing and the ipod set up, but you got to have cd player for those times when you go cd hunting or your friends jump in the car and want to play that latest comp they burned or in case your pod dies....

I just got the 9856. It's a pretty good unit. I absolutely LOVE the way it looks at night. Functionality with ipod is top notch (better than the kenwood that I had previously). The only thing you should be aware is that the ipod compatibility is only for 3rd and 4th gen ipods and 1st gen mini's/nano's.

I have the older 9851 (which I am pretty sure is the earlier model to the 9856, as the 9852 only has 1 preout vs. my 3...last time I checked)

Its a good deck, its my first deck so I can't really compare. It skips quite regularly for me...although it could be the cd is scratched.

You sure that is right ? I have a CDA-9857, and although I'm not currently using it, I have tested it with a 5th gen 60 gig Ipod video and it worked great. Works with my Nano, too.

I like mine just fine. Got a good deal on it at East Hamilton Radio. Biolite is nice compared to regular display. It's got all the features you need. internal amp can be turned off. Blends in with my black dash nicely. Doesn't stick out like pioneer decks do. I don't know why Alpine lost the features they had the previous year and a year before that, like time alighnment and all those things, including the 4v pre-outs but it's still a nice deck.
