hey, i am going to get 2 subs. first of all i'm buying the MRD-M500 amp to power the subs. so which ohm output thingy whatever should i buy? i was just gonna buy any until i read a review which said there was a huge difference. Also you guys think i could fit two 12" in my Focus trunk with a sealed box? i have no idea how big the box would be, i'm guessing the one they say in the manual. thanks alot.

also i guess i should mention, i was considering getting JL W3s. what will sound better? i'm into punchier bass, not much into the low sound. i wanna start competing in comps though so yea. . taking all this in consideration

That amp is rated to do 500 watts at 2 ohms, so I believe you will want to get a pair of dual 2 ohm subs. Then you can run each coil paralleled (1 ohm per sub) and then run them in series for a 2 ohm load, someone correct me if I am wrong here. Or run the coils on each sub in series (4 ohms) and then parallel the two subs together for a 2 ohm load. I think the Type R 10's work well sealed in about .5-.6 cubes. I would listen to some other subs first though, I was not very impressed with my 10" Type R I picked up 4 years ago, ended up trading it in for a JL 10W3, much better, in my opinion.

That is strange, how I mentioned the W3's, right when you were editing your post to mention them....crazy. I found the W3 to be very punchy, and when I did a ported box (1.5 cubes tuned around 35hz) it was a very sweet sounding setup (for one 10").

really? i was checking out the JL Audio subs and when i heard a 12" W3 in a ported box it was really rumbly, not so tight. and then i heard two 10" in a sealed box and it was much tighter and crisper sound.

I personally think that the W3's are better subs, any idea what size the box that the 12" was in? Do you know what it was tuned to? A great sub in the wrong box will sound like ***, bottom line.

then take the money you save a buy an amp with some *****.

The alpine amps are gutless. And judging by your statement " what ohm output thingy should I buy "
your not going to understand how to use any of that Time and x-over **** the amp offers anyways, so why spend the cash? [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]

So many amps out there at that price which would be a better buy for a customer like you [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

i'm not installing it though. and i do plan to learn how to use it because, well i'm spending all the money i've made in the last few months.

Hey, I wonder if this guy is on RevScene.

Type R subs are very popular, but there are quite a few members on here that would agree that for such a well built sub, it has a 'unique' sound. It could all be subjective to the install, though.

JL makes overall very good subs, and have higher sensitivity for the most part (excluding W7).
Do you plan on hearing this equipment before you buy it? If so, make some A-B comparisons between amps (concerning price and power output) and subs.
