I have a KW KDC-X993, the 3 sets of RCAs feed the fronts, midbass and sub channels. Fronts feed 1 amp for my components HP'd around 800hz, Bass2 channels are pass-banded 80hz-400hz (or so), sub channels LP at 50hz.

I've had it for 12 years now, never a problem.....with all those dials I should probably have mounted it out of sight, it's a little too handy when I feel like tweaking for no good reason.......

Gotta love a unit that will do 2way active front and rear plus true midbass and sub channels.......

If you are not using the rear shelf speakers, can an up firing sub box pass enough air through the speaker holes if those parcel shelf speakers are remove?

Yup.....unless you have picky passengers who want to hear more than all that bass.....in which case they should walk or take transit.....
