Any truth to this statement?

Just thought this was an interesting claim that may have some truth to it. Anyone care to add or elaborate on this?

"The IDQ V.2 performance is a result of sound engineering practice and give up nothing in the way of performance to the so called high output wide surround subwoofers. Just like a larger engine produces more useable power a subwoofer with more displacement produces more output. Displacement for a subwoofer is simply cone diameter multiplied by linear Xmax peak to peak (bore X stroke). Since very little of the surround of a long excursion subwoofer actually contributes to the displacement of the subwoofer their reduced cone diameter results in lower displacement requiring an increase in linear Xmax just to equal the displacement of the IDQ V.2 subwoofers."

While that is true most large surround subwoofers will have more excursion capability which will offset the smaller cone diameter. What you have to be careful of is, is the wide surround there to increase excursion or is it there to look like it increases excursion.

I totally agree with Dereck, because that is the way it is.... Most manufacturers will make the driver look that way to give a false impression that the thing whales, when i reality, the Pyramid 10 you can buy at London Drugs, for $20 will squash the MASSIVE 15 that you just picked up for the afforable and UNBEATABLE price of $700

just look at the drivers xmax rating. If it has a fat surround and a low xmax then it's all show and no go but if it has a fat surround and good xmax numbers then it really does displace a lot and that's why it has a large surround.
