I agree, however you need to get into the ball park of your expectations. Every system will hit its max potential at some point. If the gear you bought can't reach that expectation then its a waste of money.

example:

A hyundia and a ferari can both go 100km/h no problem and can drive all day at 100km/h so both do the same job, so budget says by the hyundai.

However if your goal was 250km/h the hyundia just won't cut it, and if your budget was hyundai it's going to max out way before your 250km/h goal.

Just like audio, once you hit the maximum potential it WILL NOT get any better regardless of tuning and install.

The easiest way for you to determaine what is your goal is to listen to systems, and decide if what they do is what you want. If they do, ask the owner how they achieved what they did.

Figure out your goal, and build to it.

If your budget says 140km/h then build to that and except its limits, If your geared to that 250km/h forget about budget because you'll need to use what ever nessasary to reach that goal.

is your goal hyundia......or ferari.....or somewhere in between.

Hold on a second Silver GS.....In that thread you suggested 3 subs that have next to nothing to do with eachother other than the fact that they are subwoofers.

I happen to have heard the Illusions and the W6v2's....they are so far apart from eachother it's not even funny. I'll put it bluntly as I'm so good at doing....I don't like the JL's....they cost far too much for what they are...my 260 dollar Kicker CompVR 12 sounds better than the W6v2 for less than half the cost of the JL. Sorry JL fans..wait, no, I'm not sorry, it's the truth.

Keeping in mind I haven't heard a ED sub yet(fingers crossed) I would have to say the Illusion is the closest thing to a Utopia on your list...minus the price tag and excursion capabilities.

So, lets start over at the most important peice of information that we need to be able to help you. What are you looking for in a sub....only after you answer this question do we want to hear about a budget.

Otherwise you'll get two suggestions.....if you don't want to spend a fortune, check out FS or Best Buy....OR, spend a moronic amount on W7's or some other woofer of the month. I know it sucks but answer the first question so we can get an idea of what you are looking for in a woofer.

My goal is somewhere in-between. A Lexus V8!!

Exactly my point. I am totally clueless as to what to get.....

What am I looking for in sub? I am not sure where to start. Please go easy on me, I am not a pro like some of you guys here.

I want a very good sounding SQ sub. Please keep in mind that I am not in my twenties, so brain melting, pounding bass is not a #1 priority to me (no offense intended to any of the twenty year olds on here).

A very good sounding system that can get loud, but not obnoxiously loud is what I am after. Hard to describe, but I hope you get my drift.......

Quality sound that can theoretically compete in the Rookie SQ class (that does not necessarily mean I have to compete, but it would be nice if I could, so I am not ruling out that possibility)

If you dont want earth shattering bass, that opens the door to alot of woofers.
IMO your thinking to hard on this as most of your sq will come from your front stage anyway.

IDQ sound great.. and for the price, why not?
Brahma`s XXX`s sound good but need alot of power but can sound very nice and loud in a small sealed box.

Hardwrkr Really said it all. How much power are you going to be running?

These are the specs of the amp:

Power is being provided by a Zapco C2K-2.0X (power on these amps is underated).

Here are the factory specs on the amp (what would you narrow your list of subs to now based on this?) - what do I expect from my setup? Excellent SQ system. Plain and simple

2-Channel High Current Amplifier with Dual Crossover Dual Outputs Stable into 1 Ohm Stereo Loads

Stereo, 4 ohms: 2x50 Watts
Stereo, 2 ohms: 2x100 Watts
Stereo, 1 ohms: 2x200 Watts
Bridged, 4 ohms: 1x200 Watts
Bridged, 2 ohms: 1x400 Watts
T.H.D. + Noise: <0.02%
Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20kHz; +0 dB/-0.35 dB
S/N Ratio: >100dB
Transient Distortion: <0.01%
Slew Rate: >26V/uS
Damping Factor: >900
Input Sensitivity: 1-4 Volts or 4-16 Volts
Dimensions: 13.5"L x 8.75"W x 2.375"H

I am leaning towards a pair of IDQ's

There's a few subs I could suggest that would sound great on that amp.

IDMAX
CompVR
IDQ
Illusion
Focal Access/Polyglass

NOW, how bout a budget. CompVR's are pretty cheap considering what they are capable of. IDMAX is a bit more expensive, but very nice, gets nice and punchy and can hold the lows with the best of them.

Don't let the price tag of the Focal Access and Polyglass fool you either.....they may be pretty cheap(well, cheap for Focal) but if I had to pick a favourite subwoofer of 2004....it would those two.

The IDQ pretty much speaks for itself...it's old design, it's not the prettiest sub....it's proven and it works well. But for roughly the same price you don't quite get a CompVR IMO.

Is this the Focal Access model you are referring to:
Focal Access 27LUX 27 LUX 11" Subwoofer 2004
