AVI SL250 Vs. 300? And the Box.
#1
I am leaning towards buying single AVI sub to run in a sealed box. Can anyone characterise the SQ difference between these two? I am initially hoping to run it off two channels on a ZED Draconia (About 70 or moreX4 into 4ohms). If I need a Sub amp , I will buy one later. ALso, I have narrowed the placement of the box down to two places. One would be molded into the side panel behind the wheel well (On a 98 BMW 3 series 4 door) the other option is to place the box firing directly through the ski pass through. Would having the sound come from the back and therefore filling the trunk cavity offer any difference in sound quality. I am not a Basshead, but after full range and seamless. Thanks, Bob.

Well, I have not used the SL 300, but I did use a pair of SL 250's for quite some time. Very accurate, dry sounding subwoofers IMO, and require very little power. They do like rather large ported enclosures though, sealed is a no no. They are supposed to work wonders in an Aperiodic configuration as well, but I have not tried it. I had mine in a 2.9cuft. fiberglass enclosure, with two 4" ports IIRC, cant remember the length. For power I used the rear channels of a SS Rubicon
(50x4) and it worked very well, suprisingly loud for as little power as I had.

I have an AVI SL-250 and an SL-200 thay are in the factory 6th order bandpass boxes and they are increadable.I also have two SLS-300's(1.0 cub each sealed)they are great sounding woofers as well, although two totaly different style boxes they all hit very very low!

the sls300 is one of if not the best sq oriented woofer i ahve ever heard. 1.15 cubic ft sealed, nets down to just over 1 cubic foot and you are good to go. i have build and listened to this exact box more times that i have fingers and toes, in amultitude of vehicles and it never seems to dissappoint

the sls250 is a great woofer by its own right but i like the low end extension of the 12" over the 10". the 12" is more linear at lower volume, a tough thing for alot of woofers, and i actaull prefer the attack of the 12" to the 10". i have had great success witht he 12" but have likely used 20 times as many as the 10's
kilowatt. the sl and sls sereies are both very good sounding woofers, the sls sereies have more output capabilty due to its vented box requirements. the sl250(10") woofer requires 2 cubic ft vented and the better part of 3 for the 12". the sl sereies benefits from higher sensitivity over the sls sereies, but i sstill prefer theslsl300 over all of them except maybe the sl250. it is another amazing woofer and likely the one that really put avi on the map and kept them there
