Can I use 2 10" subs from different manufacturers

The are very similar subs with similar specs, how would they sound together?
Good? Bad? Worth doing anyways?
I really just don't want to go out and buy another sub of one or the other kind.

Nah its more fun this way plus if you like it bud its all good
First I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to share their ideas,
knowledge, and experience with me.
From around 9pm last night, until around 1:30am this morning, three friends
of mine and I tried out the combination.
It was going to be the only time I had to work on this project until Monday, and i really wanted to give you guys something, especially after the amount of days some of you have been continuing to check this thread.
Once again, thanks.
First I grabbed a 2 opening 10" sub box, with individual sealed chambers.
Then I grabbed the Phoenix Gold Octane-R 250 rms sub, hooked it up, then I grabbed the Rockford Fosgate P110S4 150 rms sub, hooked it up.
I installed the Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 Monoblock "D" Class amp.
Oddly enough, the amp had 2 channels.....can anyone explain this???
It is a monoblock amp....anyways.
I turned the bass boost, sensitivity, x over frequency, and subsonic filter to min levels.
I first started by cranking the bass boost, then the sensitivity, I put the amp to the low pass filter setting, then increased the x-over frequency until i started to get distortion, then adjusted the subsonic filter.
What surprised me was, the Phoenix Gold started to distort first.
That is why I had to adjust the filter, to keep the PG from distorting.
The subs acted unison.
Nothing exploded or melted, you could tell that there were 2 different subs in the truck, but it sounded pretty cool!!!
It was like listening to a very wide spectrum of bass, on every bass note!!!
The bass was good, and i felt a little shaking in my chest.....not good enough.
@ this time, I was still thinking about the 2 channels on my mono amp.
I decided that I liked the sound of the RF, it didn't sound as "sloppy", so i hooked it up by itself, and i "bridged" the mono amp.
I still don't know how this is possible....I will send some pictures of the amp soon.
Now keep in mind this is a RF P110S4 with only 150rms, CEA compliant mind you, whereas the PG sub had some shady power numbers. I don't know where PG is getting their numbers, and websites everywhere will vary their power numbers of the sub from 200W rms to 250W rms.....
I played the Rockford Fosgate bass CD, a two track CD that really gives your sub a workout.
I put my volume to 15,and hit play.....
I lost my hearing....
I literally ran away from my truck out of straight fear because i just lost my hearing.
I ran approx 1 block from the truck, and my hearing started to come back, however, @ this distance, the sub was pounding the $h!t out of my truck, and i could hear it clearly.
When I approached the truck, my friends were on the ground laughing their ace's off and holding their ears @ the same time.
This little 10" was reverberating my kidneys, my chest, and my head as I started to turn down the volume.
I still cannot believe this, I am now a fan of Rockford Fosgate.
The one RF sounded louder, much louder than when the 2 subs were playing in unison.
So folks, this was the end result, I now know, the amp is more important
than the sub. If you have a decent sub and a strong amp, the bass will
make you $h!t yourself.
I learned a valuable lesson last night, in another forum guys were telling me that I would need @ least 500W rms to pound my chest.....I used the least powerful sub in the RF 10" sub lineup which i absolutely love, yet I used a solid Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 monoblock amp which i absolutely love.
And with this setup, I LOST MY HEARING!!!!!! MY CHEST WAS POUNDING!!!! MY KIDNEYS WERE SHAKING!!!!....YOU DON'T NEED THAT CRAZY POWER TO $H!T YOURSELF!!!!! THIS SETUP WILL DO IT!!!!
This setup surprised the crap out of my friend, who has a showcar that has
4 12" Alpine R's that are powered by two crazy alpine amps and the rest of the car's system that is powered by 2 tsunami amps in which all four are class "T" amps!!
I've decided to return the PG sub, make a box for the RF, save some space and money. Everything should be completed by Monday.
All in all, I am pretty sure @ this point a pair of identical subs WILL SOUND BETTER as pretty much all of you were saying, compared with two non-identical subs. However if you have some free time, I suggest you try it out, it sounds really cool. Also, 2 subs are not necessarily better than 1.
I wish I had all of the guys that participated in this thread there, you guys would have been laughing along with my friends, firstly @ the fact that i sprinted down the street in fear, secondly because anyone standing @ the doors of the truck would have temporarily lost their hearing.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!!! I will get those pics of the "2-channel monoblock amp as soon as Monday"
THANKS GUYS YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT HELP!!!!!
