Can't make up my mind. eD or Mach5?

I'll just assume that this will turn into a big pissing contest, but I was looking for some honest opinions here.

I've owned alot of eD gear in the past, but am currently using a mach5 maw-12 sealed (not enough output sealed compared to my friends current 13kv2, both in 1.2cf. It seems to be lacking in upper bass but i havent had a chance to sit there and play with the parametric eq in my deck too much), but I've been considering switching back to a 13kv2 (i owned one about 2 years ago and loved it).

I will be doing a complete reinstall of my stereo sometime next month to clean up wiring from old installs and run things a little differently so I have room for some other upcomming goodies...

Current system:

Alpine 9815
eD EDI 6500 (active)
M5 MAW-12 sealed
MTX PRO400X5

I now have a matching pair of Alpine MRP-F240 and MRP-M350 in my possession that will be used instead of the MTX (i fell in love setting up the pair in my friends car -- yes yes I know its not big power but that's not what Im concerned about).

What I can't decide on is whether to keep the Mach5 sub and port it using the recommended enclosure and switch out my eD mids for the mach5 mids (I like things to match as best they can and am kinda looking for a change, but I don't really want to step down if that's what id be doing switching to mach5 for my speakers)

OR

Keep my eD components and reaquire a 13Kv2 to replace the maw-12... The 13Kv2 will be in 1.6@~32hz for a happy medium between eDs recommended boxes (same box I used two years ago).

Since I've never heard the MAW-12 ported and have never heard the Mach5Audio mids I'm looking for some honest opinions and thoughts on the two setups.

Thanks!

Well to be honest I recieved a MAW-12 from Mark at Mach-5 and tested it in a sealed box. I found when you get upto the 400Wrms range with that driver you start to get some pretty evident cone noise. Having said that I have not tried it in a ported box either. We are going to drop it into a 4th order bandpass and try that as well. The driver is built very well and no doubt it will handle more power then its rating. Suspension is a little on the soft side so Im not sure if porting it will make an improvement or not. Best thing to do is try it. But keep in mindthat once it gets to the 400+rms power range its starts to reach its mechanical limits.

ED has always made a great product. the 13KV2 is a solid sub, look for reviews on their site, there are a LOT of happy ED customers. I'm looking at using some ED gear in my next competition setup.

I would go ED. ED has been around for a while and they have more selection and their main goal isnt to make the products as inexpensive as possible.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. I finally got a change to play with my eq a bit yesterday and the mach5 sub sounds great now with the edi6500s and blends beautifully, but with that said, im still using the PRO400X5. I do know what you mean about the cone noise, we threw it on my buddy's JL 500.1 and raised the gains to just before it was bottoming and it was pretty noisy (around 400wrms on the DMM). (I don't know how well winISD models cone excursion, but it also looks like the M5 will bottom with anything over 400wrms in the ported box I wanted to build, so it might not be the best choice for this application in my install either).

I'd stil like to hear from people who have experience with the MAW-12 ported and/or the mach5 audio mids. I do love my eDis, theres probably no reason to go switching them out for a lower cost driver, then again Ben gave me a really sweet deal on them in the first place as well as all of the eD gear I used to have... I wish I had kept in better touch with him.

Sassmaster, I know all about the eD quality, Ive owned edi6500s, 13kv2s, 16kv2s, 16ov2s, 12Kxs, etc I too have been a very happy eD customer

If I could still get the 16Kv2 I'd be doing that in a sealed spare tire well enclosure and be calling it a day. I should have never sold mine. Now my friend won't sell it back.

I should probably just get a 13Kv2 since I also have a set of fiberglass door panels that I know the edis fit in, but im not so sure about the mach5 mids.

I'd love to hear your results in the bandpass Smartass.

Thanks again guys, further input welcomed!

Sounds like a well thought out decision. And yes I will keep you updated on the bandpass.

Cool.

I've been thinking about it more and am continuing to lean more towards the 13Kv2 for a better upgrade path... interchangability with the 13ov2 is a nice plus, and the only reason I see that I would ever upgrade amps again is to switch to the eD 5 channel when it was released... and this way I end up with an all eD system minus the HU again.
I guess my decision is made.

Thanks again guys.

Im curious, why are you choosing the 13Kv.2 vs the 13Ov.2? The price difference isnt that much and the mounting depths are close, only 1" difference.

Due to the power on tap.

I've owned both, and they will say there isn't much difference between the two on the same power, but from my experience one right after another there is. If I was running more power it would be the Ov hands down though. I just don't have a need for it.
