Change subs??

Hey I'm currently running two 10" Alpine Type X subs off an MTX Thunder81001 amp. They're not bad subs and can hit pretty hard for two tens...but I still don't feel satisfied with them. I'm looking for something with great SQ. I'm not sure if that amp is the best for SQ, but that's what i'm working with right now and there's no shortage of power... I keep hearing good things about the W7, but how much cu.ft do they require? I'd be putting them in the trunk of a '98 Honda Prelude and if it's possible i'd fit two of em (overkill?). Well let me know what you think or if there's a completly different sub that might do the trick.

Thanks

the box can be a big part of what you are trying to get not just IT MUST BE THE SUBS if your box is a pice of s#@t then that will make your subs that too

They're in a sealed prefab "Bass Slammer" box. I wanted to get something custom built but wasn't even sure if it'd make a difference.

It will definitely make a difference. Your best bet for info on these subs and proper box is to shoot Defro13 a PM for some info on the box. If you are interested in changing the subs, then you have a crapload of options to choose from. Personally, if I was after tonal response and louder volume, I would have a pair of 12's in the proper custom box and call it a day.

Thanks for the tips. I was also looking at some sound deadening mat for the trunk, at least. I think that would help the SQ. My cap is also only a 1 farad Stinger, but that doesn't seem to be able to keep up(head lights still dimming). Has anyone tried Stingers SHD3M 3 farad beast...thining about upgrading to that.

My system seems to have been divided by Alpine and MTX (not sure how it happened). I've got a Alpine 9833 HU. MTX TXC 5.1's for fronts. Those are powered by an Alpine 600W 2ch. The two 10" Alpine Type X subs which are in a sealed "bass slammer" box are powered by an MTX 81001 (1ch measured 1744W at 1ohm). The cap is a stinger 1 farad (not nearly enough). I've been playing with this system for a little while now (still have Boston RC520's sitting here) and am willing to switch/tweak whatever it takes to make a solid SQ system. Any tips/suggestions of what you guys think i should do/not do would be great. Thanks
