Damping?

Just want to see what some peoples opinions are on the giant farce that is the almighty damping factor.

Personally......damping doesn't mean . It's a pretty trivial number concerning how good an amplifier sounds.

Haha...yeah, i don't put much weight into df specs, as long as it's a modern, brand name or well built amp...the df will be more than enough to be inaudible. I'm more interested in build quality, rated rms power, and personal experience with a brand. Most specs these days are useless as just about any good amp can easily meet noise, freq. response, and distortion levels well below audibility.

In audio system terminology the damping factor gives the ratio of the rated impedance of the loudspeaker to the source impedance. Only the resistive part of the loudspeaker impedance is used.

damping factor for dummies: the amps ability to control a speakers movement.

the difference in nearly all amps damping factors will be inaudible

not an audible phenomenon with any reaonably built amplifier, but most certainly an electrical phenomenon that is very easy to measure.
