Clarion decks are great too. I believe JVC offered a deck with 24bit DACs. I cant remember the model number, but it was silver with a large display. 'digifine' or something.. saw it installed in some SQ vehicles. I think it is reasonably priced too.

Thumbs up

I had a Kenwood MP3 deck (KDC-MP8017). Sounded good. However I just picked up a Kenwood Excelon Series MP3 player (KDC-X859).. and Much better! One of the cleanest decks I've heard. And the bonus was I could set HPF and LPF for all the outputs from the deck, nice if your amps do not have this feature. If you like Kenwood, get one of the Excelon series decks. That's why I don't talk about them in my reviews. heh heh..
There you go again, Dave....getting all technical and stuff....

I still think starting with a good foundation helps you build a better house tho....and I stand by my suggestion on the Kenwood earlier, the rest of the brands mentioned would most likely cost more than the original poster has to work with....

Aside from the faceplates becoming a little "warm", I've never had a bad experience or comment with an Alpine deck. I've found some of the sub $500 Kenwood or Alpine decks to be lacking in clarity, but that deppends on the kind of music you play. (Classical, or Jazz comes to mind)

Thats about all the experience I can offer, good luck.

I just know Dawgsbreakfast is going to cut in with a glowing Pioneer P9 endorsement
